AM 1260, WCCR, "The Rock" recently sent supporters its publication "Upon This Rock". In the column "Notes From The Special Projects Manager and Board Member", written by Leo Burkardt, a number of broadcast items were covered.
First of all, he talks about their big project from last summer surrounding their 5 broadcast towers and grounding system. Quoting now:
"We discovered that we were losing 20% of our broadcast signal strength and we were able to trace it to the grounding system of our antenna towers. The grounding system was very dilapidated. You may have noticed changes in our signal strength over the last couple of months of the summer. We had to shut down one tower at a time so we could work on it, which caused our signal pattern to keep changing as we worked on the towers. It was a big effort, but it was worth it. Our signal is now up to full strength.
Mr. Burkardt then wrote that the Fall Spirit drive was a wonderful success. WCCR made its goal of $90,000. "The spring and fall Spirit Drives...are what fund our daily costs of keeping AM1260 The Rock on the air:.
"We had a nice turnout for the Prayer Service for Deceased Priests at Holy Cross Cemetery on November 18th... We announce one of our priests on the air every day to specially pray for him that day".
Generous gifts were given to support "We Give Catholic" on December 3rd. The total given the Diocese of Cleveland was $4,186,139 which Mr. Burkhardt wrote was "a great testament to the people of Northeast Ohio". The radio station received a small portion of that which turned out to be enough to replace WCCR's aging copier for which parts are no longer available.
He went on to remind everyone that 2025 is the 10th year of broadcasting on AM1260. WCCR began broadcasting on Monday, May 11, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. with "The Divine Mercy Chaplet". To celebrate the 10th anniversary, WCCR is going to have a 10th Anniversary Gala on Friday, May 9th. Father Gerald Murray, J.C.D., a frequent guest on "The World Over" show will be the keynote speaker. The Lyceum Scola will be performing during dinner.
A new show called "Burning Hearts with Rachel Herbeck" now airs Monday-Friday in the 3:00 p.m. hour. Rachel is the Director of Young Adult Discipleship for Renewal Ministries in Michigan. She's the daughter of Peter Herbeck from the EWTN program "Crossing The Goal".
This new show replaces "Food For The Journey". That show's host, Sr. Ann Shield, Sr has retired.
