Any guesses? My big girlfriend at cc has her predictions. And after talking with her a few minutes ago. She says the mice are starting to run scared. Kixx takes 1st, with the Cat 2nd. Kiss and Q come in 3rd, Oldies and Mix 4th, Wolf 5th. 99 rock 6th, and EBK 7th. Fox, CVR, and 93.9/101.7 are in 8th...with everyone else following way behind...Should be interesting to see tomorrow! Best of luck to all...and with all this warmer weather, spring should be good up here on the farm in Sharon! The cows are enjoying!

No real surprises in this round. Sort of funny to me seeing WEBK finally beating out Classic Rock 101 the Fox though not by a large margin. The WEBK folks wanted to be sort of a "Fox Lite" or "Mix for Men". WZRT seems to be one of the more consistant top players between the rating periods. XL 92, wazzup there ?

As far EBK "beating" the fox...it is necessary to look at the bigger picture. The Fox signal only reaches half the market (mainly Rutland County) WEBK's signal reaches the entire market. The majority of the books that EBK got were in areas the fox doesnt reach. Take a look at Rutland County break outs...WEBK isn't even a blip on the radar screen. I find it more outstanding that The Fox does as well as it does market wide with only 6,000 watts of power.

The main issue is the fact that trying to combine the UV with Rutland is nuts. These areas together as a mkt? You will never get any numbers that truly represent the mkt. How does a station like the Fox or 99 Rock ever get numbers in both areas? They don't. This further proves what a mess and how unreliable Arbitron is. Arbitron is way too expensive to have as many issues as it does. Every time a diary comes out you hear the same complaints about placement, numbers of diaries returned et, etc. These issues are magnified 10x in a mkt as small as Leb/Rut.

Oh Valhalla Fred ... I must explain this to you EVERYTIME a book comes out!

Arbitron uses mathematical data to derive the results it gets. Like it or not, it's the only accurate and accepted measure of radio listening audiences in America! And you may think it's nuts to combine Lebanon with Rutland ... what it does is makes every station in that market a top 200 station, rather than being in the top 250+, like Barre/Montpelier.

With these numbers, you can then get breakdowns by county or by zip code. That way, when you have a station like the Fox that doesn't reach over Killington, you can see that it does EXTREMELY well for where it is.

Everyone knows that with maximiser you can make the numbers pretty much say what you want them to. That doesn't make it accurate. I just think they're stretching it a bit combining those areas. And btw, who cares about being a Top 200 station. Since when does Arbitron care about the self esteem of radio stations? You're Top 200, so what? Top 200 or 250 or 300 there's no difference. After 100 the national/regional dollars are but mere crumbs. I just hope Arbitron uses all of this extra cash it's making to improve the system.

I heard something the other day that I just couldn't believe. Nassau employees are forbidden to discuss each other outside of work. So, if you run into Joe Blow at the store and ask him to say Hi to Chris, he's not allowed. I thought this was completely absurd and unbelievable so I asked a current Nassua employee about this and yes there is a policy. I should have asked if viewing this website during work hours is also verbotten. I'm sure it is. I believe it was outlawed at CC Lebanon. I wonder what the consequences are for violating such a policy? If in fact this policy is on the books at Nassua, how far are they from forbidding their employees from smoking during off hours like you see happening in Europe. Crazy times are ahead it looks like.

On another topic, what is with CC stations and this "We'll be back after 3 and a half minutes of commercials or less" crap. What is the point of that? All that does is make it look as though you're completely voice tracked. If you have 2 minutes of spots say 2 minutes. There's absolutely no benefit in making the listener think that a spot break is longer than it really is. I heard a jock say that and then it was followed by a promo saying the exact same thing. Is there a reason why CC put Chump on in the UV? 93.9/101.17 is playing so much classic rock. The mix is terrible, but they're playing tons. Yesterday I heard a very loud obnoxious hard rock song into Hotel California. Who exactly is programming that station? Are they paying the mid-day girl for her voice tracking? They're getting ripped off! She makes no attempt to hide the fact that she's tracked. So many questions I know, take 'em one at a time if you have to.

Didn't Cat Country come out near the top, with the 94.5 signal by far the worst full power signal in the market period. The 95.1 covers well south of the market. Those signals do not cover the entire market. Again, it looks like EBK is trending up, while the stale Fox is trending down.

There are already employers here in the US that prohibit employee smoking during their free time. I remember seeing a piece on "60 Minutes" a couple months ago discussing it. The company (in Michigan, I think) gave employees 18 months to quit...if they didn't, they were shown the door, no questions. I seem to recall that this company had a policy on employee fitness as well. Crazy times ahead? Scary times is more like it. What's next, employers arranging marriages for their employees?

Peace,
