How often have you heard, from your own library or on the radio, a single song or a segue of any order or pattern in which you hear upbeat followed up by a downer? For instance:
Single songs in which you have the build up and let down within the songs themselves:
Love Is Here And Now You're Gone - The Supremes (single song in which the title says it all, but the lyrics embellish)
Build Me Up Buttercup - The Foundations (why do you build me up, just to tear me down)
Or songs segued one following another, side by side, or however they are stacked, for instance (and not saying these were segues that I heard in this order, but examples of how they get played out:
You Are The Woman - Firefall (upbeat little torch song) just in front of
It's Too Late - Carole King (a breakup song)
I won't even ask whether it is in the program director's head and heart, or whether the button pushers have something going on in their own lives that they feel they need to get it out of their systems, so they just take it out however they take it out. I generally change the station when I hear it, because I prefer to keep the fun in dysfunctional.
How many can you think of?
