URB Meridian: FAIL

So this morning while the other stations in Meridian were talking about school and business closings, the snow in general and the like, URB was doing... nothing. They were still playing their voice tracked "morning show" on Miss, syndicated programming on Kiss and Q and Hot was off the air all morning! I remember when I worked for them, they said they were going to be committed to the community. So much for that. Can someone explain to me how this is serving the public interest? Not so much if you ask me. They need to end the lease and let Clear Channel try to let someone who gives a rip run the cluster. Then maybe it won't be a cluster... well, yeah.

?Are they leasing or did they purchase the stations from CC?

It was supposed to be a LMA with intent to purchase but someone told me a while back that they didn't exercise the option and opted to basically continue leasing the cluster.

Well, as one of the characters on the John Boy and Billy Network says after being asked - hows that going...."NOT TOO GOOD!!!"

well, to respond to your discussion...they should have been live and had extra staff to answer phones, gather info, etc. a good opportunity to serve the community was missed. But EVERY DAY there's an opportunity to serve the community.

I wonder - when is the lease up?

I still wonder...when is the lease up? I don't mind admitting that this salesman doesn't know how to find the fcc records very well.

In radio days of old, everything was abbreviated...so TNX was thanks...73 was goodbye and regards...there were many more...so....THANKS....JBI

that's outstanding, but the answer to the question would be a date...I really don't want to hedge w/you. I don't know you, but a friend of mine that I take very seriously says you are a good radio guy. I am not an investor, but have much interest in the Meridian market since the 90's. I was just sincerely trying to find out what's going on w/the lma.

So... I understand, but when the money runs out the LMA is OVER...regardless what the expiration date is...that was the point I was trying to make....sorry...Tnx JBI

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but the FCC website doesn't list any info regarding an LMA or JSA, unless it is connected with a station sale. Since it takes some time for the FCC to approve an assigment of license, some buyers will immediately enter into an LMA until the sale is approved. The place to find out about the LMA terms would be the station's Public File.

When I worked there I was told they were LMA'ing the stations with an option to purchase or to renew the LMA after it expired. There may be other backroom stuff involved that I don't know about but that's what I was told when I worked there. I'd be surprised if they ever actually purchase the stations. From what I hear, they're barely able to pay salaries and most of the people who are still there are mainly there because they have nowhere else to go. It's a shame. That building used to be one of the best to work in in the entire state and then it all went to Hell. The stations sound like crap, they're mostly robojocked from Tupelo or Muscle Shoals and are generally pathetic. There's not many companies that I wish out of business but URB is one of them. The damage they've done to Meridian radio is disgraceful and may never be able to be repaired.

I don't think they want to be in Meridian... I think that was forced on them so they could have the market they really wanted from Clear Channel... Tupelo.
