Urban AC/"Soft R&B" for WFNX?

It's a photo of an RDS enabled radio tuner tuned to WFNX that shows the Program Type code as "Soft R&B". Historically the PTY has been "Rock". I wonder if this means anything or nothing at all.

That photo must have been taken in another city where there's some other station on 101.7 playing "Soft R&B". There's nothing there saying that it's WFNX in the Boston area. I'm now checking WFNX on my HD radio with RDS, and the PTY still says "Rock" right now, as it always has.

I have no reason to doubt it was WFNX. It is possible that the PTY was changed then changed back. The tweet associated with the photo says WFNX, and I took a look at some of the Tweets from the person who posted it and there are a lot of WFNX related Tweets.

But to add credence to your theory, does anyone know of any 101.7's in the US that carry a "Soft R&B" format that encodes that as the PTY in their RDS?

I don't know whether these stations have RDS, I would have to receive them on the radio to know, but WQVE Albany, GA and WRBV Warner Robbins, GA have what looks like "soft R&B" formats on 101.7. The recently played songs on their websites are adult urban contemporary and a few classics with no hip-hop/rap.

Oh, please. Are we really still in the "it's on the Internet, so it must be true" era?

You should have EVERY reason to doubt it was WFNX. Ever hear of "right-click, Save Picture As..." or img tags? It really doesn't take a lot of brains or talent to make something look like something else.

It's official...from someone in the know...WFNX is a radio station....soon it will be a different radio station...pass it on.....

1/32nd of its programming will be American Indian music. Pass it on.
you joke, but im pretty sure WZBC carries American Indian music, especially on holidays like Thanksgiving and July 4. as for India's music, am still looking on FM - 530 and 1650 overnight from Toronto seem to be the best bet (aside from AIR). would be a great format for 101.7, too bad it's probably not profitable enough for ClearChannel

Yup. Victor Venckus does that every Thanksgiving on WZBC (he also does Saturdays 7-11am and he plays Native American music, among several other formats, each week then.

It's his way of making an arguably-very poignant statement while simultaneously being a good friend to the station by keeping them on the air on a day that, ordinarily, it would be very, very hard to get live bodies in to spin the tunes. WZBC, last I heard, does not have any automation system and relies exclusively on live DJ's.
