Urban AC

Do you think now is a good time for another UAC to launch with Steve Harvey in the morning? I know Cumulus failed with Power 97.5 but do you think now the time is right? Perhaps also the new station could emulate the sound Majic 102 had before Radio One took over? What are your thoughts? Will it work? Of course, it would need to be on a stick with a signal.

ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!!!! It's time for Majic to get some serious competition. Cox could flip 106.9 to Urban AC, and possibly double their share within the first book. And, I have only heard snipets of Steve Harvey's show, but it is definitely fresher than Tom Joyner's very stale morning show.

I never thought I'd say Clear Channel did a better job than someone else, but they did head & shoulders better than Radio One. I know the overall shares are better now, but they no longer have any competition, as they did in the past. I can't even listen to Majic anymore. When I do, I hear the same golds over and over. I never thought I would say I don't care to hear "They'll Never Be" by Switch, but I could go a couple of years without hearing it again, and be ok with it.

It is way past time for another Urban AC, if anything to bring the "Majic" back to 102. I'm sorry 102.1.

I don't think this will happen - it could happen on HD2 - but I think you'll be waiting a long time.

Get an Ipod and load it with the music you like. You'll be a lot happier.

I too think it's time Majic has some competition. It's definitely ashame the station has tanked (quality-wise) since Radio One took over. I too find it hard to say Clear Channel did a better job... but they did. The station had an upbeat sound, almost a Hot Urban AC sound. The music was on point. The morning show was tight. Great sounding station....

As far as Steve Harvey, it is "fresher" than Tom Joyner. We have it hear in Charlotte and it does provide an alternative to Tom (no disrepect Tom). I do think Funky Larry Jones had a better show than Steve's but that's a topic for another day. Steve's show is not your traditional show in terms of clean breaks, talking over music, etc.. but it is entertaining.

Here's hoping some competition comes to Houston.

Heck, Doug Banks is fresher than Joyner (Banks is not constantly talking about "racism" either...but then Joyner is one of the biggest in that field)
