US 94 dropped alll Classic Country

Call me wacky, but I'm picking up on a pattern here.

Big Dan rarely comes out of the closet except when he's spouting the latest corporate line.

Re: CUMULUS LOOKING FOR A FAYETTEVILLE MM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is a new MM in NWA - a GUNGHO lady that will get it done and take no prisoners - CC should watch out. It is a NEW DAY in HAWG COUNTRY

~~~~~~~~~~~
That was December. This is the middle of April. Have they beaten Kix-104 lately? I guess 3.5 months is too soon to measure any trends. No wait...have they EVER beaten ANY station...other than their own?
My guess is you won't hear from Big Dan. He's probably too busy trying to execute the latest corporate order...and making them believe he likes it. He could be busy trying to get promoted, you never know.
Remember, these are Cumulus stations. 'Nuff said?
It appears that US 94 has dropped alll the Classic Country!! Very sad. Big Dan, can you shead soem light on this?
A while back they started adding new country to the mix trying to attract a younger demo. Of course that p***** off the older and younger listeners. If they did it like a Jack FM country format it might have worked, but this was just a bad mix of old and new. Now they think they can compete with the #1 station with a format that isn't even voicetracked 20 hours a day, just on auto pilot other than morning drive. What an embarassment.
I will tell you this....Big Dan is a much better radio man that to think all this is a good idea. HOwever, we all know that in this day and time in broadcasting, if you don't do what the corporate idiot in Chicago or Dallas tells you to do...you will be gone. It doesn't matter who you are or how good of a broadcaster you are....a pimply faced high school kid with a fat girlfriend can push the "auto" button....for alot less money.
I don't know too many radio people who can really tell management what they think...not alot of independently wealthy broadcasters out there.
Dan, you're one of the best radio minds I've ever been around. Take care buddy.
I guess that's why he swallowed the Kool-Aid back in December.
Look, I have no axe to grind with Big Dan. I once worked with him and found him to be a somewhat different character than the one you described. My guess is that we are both right, relating to our experiences.
Regardless, this cluster is a loser and its ownership isn't helping. Never has. Changing only the music mix on ANY of their signals ain't gonna cut it. My guess is that even Cumulus knows that. Getting them to care about it is another issue.
US94 has moved the needle...Classic Country is over after several years of low performance - although the listeners it had LOVED IT. The times they are a changing.
WOW - how does BAT FASTARD get up in the morning with such an attitude about OUE PRECIOUS INDUSTRYi- you MUST look for the good where it is...BIG RADIO OWNERS - MOM & POP'S - SMALL RADIO OWNERS - it doesn't matter - there is good stuff & not so good stuff in all radio groups - I've had nearly 40 years of it. Just do the best radio you can for YOURSELF & the "man" (the company) you work for. And remember one thing - it will change (again) someday.
Big Dan should be respected no matter who you are, or what your opinions on cumulus’ business practices are. Respect the people who paved the way for you.
I worked briefly with dan and enjoyed every minute....and spent A LOT of time with my mouth shut and my eyes and ears open...learning from him.
dan has the right idea...dont worry about the stuff you cant control...which is about everything. and don't sweat the small stuff....and its all small stuff.
I have met Big Dan. Nice guy. It is not his fault things change. I just hate they fact that there is not one station except for the 3 sports stations that does not cater to the teeny bops here in Northwest Arkansas. Advertisers don't understand that they are NOT the only people that have money. If you have no interest in sports and want music that is not all teeny bop or cater to the druggies, you are out of luck in this market.
How do I do it? Conditioned response. You, of all people, should be able to remember this "precious" industry and all the good it was able to generate BEFORE it got raped by the corporates...and yes, there is "raping" of the industry by the small guys who think it's stylish to act like the big ones.
I've BEEN looking for good from the likes of Cumulus for years but I guess I don't have your rose-colored glasses. I see NOTHING positive about the way they "operate" their stuff and that's in spades in N.W.A. I will shortly yield the floor for a response on this point. I'd LOVE to hear about all that's positive about working for the Cumulus.
We agree on one thing: it's matter of personal pride every time I open the mic, because at that moment, it's not about Cumulus or anyone else...it's about me and what I am blessed enough to offer.
It may change again in our lifetime, but I wouldn't bet the farm on that. Not unless their financial house of cards collapses...again.
'Scuze me? Maybe I'm a little thick between the ears, but I don't get this one.
Yes, our industry has changed - sadly, the people who own the stations aren't radio guys...they are investors. Lets hope "someday" radio guys will be back in charge. I hope those who remember how it once was will still be around to put "radio" back together - best to all.
Wow, lots of hate here. Can't we just all sit in a circle and sing Kumbaya? "Paved the way" is just an easy way to say Dan's been doing this longer than either of us have been alive, and at least deserves a little respect for that. While I agree that investors and big business radio have killed what we all used to believe "radio" was supposed to be, you have to adjust and move forward.
The statement about it being for you when you open the mic is spot on, and I've been fortunate enough to hear the passion in each of your deliveries many times. In fact, I'd say there are few jocks I've ever met or heard that give as passionate a delivery as Big Dan or Bat Fastard when they open the mic.
But hell, what do I know. I'm just a former part-time nobody. Y'all keep having fun playing radio, and I'll keep having fun not worrying about ratings or job security. Wish I could find something that offers both.
