Us New Yorkers are feelin' Crummey

Just heard that your Joe Crummey will grace our airwaves Middays on 77 WABC.

What are we in for? Personally, it's fun just to get something non-syndicated.

What are you in for? Well, that depends on how well the ISDN line works from El Lay to New York, and what New Yorkers think of local programming via El Lay. ;D

When you stop and think about it, El Lay is a lot like New York, just without the great pizza, crazy cabbies, thick accents, bridges, boroughs, bodegas, Brooklyn, Ground Zero, etc. ;)

Honestly, I enjoy listening to Crummey. How well he translates into the New York talk scene remains to be seen.

What to expect? EVIL.

Deal with it!

According to Laurie Cantillo, KFYI's former Chickboss, and now PD of WABC, Crummey's show will originate from WABC's NYC studios...if he continues the evening program on KTAR, it will have to be from there.

Well, that's crummey! Now the Evil One will have to stay up to 1am to do his Phoenix show from La Manzana gigante!

I wonder why Chickboss wouldn't want the number one rated talk show in Phoenix, on the biggest station in the valley, 3-7, 3-7, 3-7, that's how we roll Mac y Gaydos?? ???

Wait! Laurie Cantillo is the famed "Chickboss" of KFYI?

I love lurking this Phoenix board because all of your nicknames are so entertaining. It's funny when you actually learn who the people behind the nicknames are.

Hey, Dr Akbar... ever think of "consulting" in NYC?

What are you in for? That's easy: Look forward to hearing LA times for NY events. Those of us in Phoenix have had to endure Leno/O'Brien talk about it - the late nite television show - being on at 11:30 (it's 10:30 AZ time). The guy's practically going to need to have index cards shoved under his nose to keep track of which market he's talking to: "It's this time for LA, this time for Phoenix, and this time for NY!" He doesn't even know what movies are playing (e.g., "Easy A", which stars a Scottsdale native) and he lives in LA? I mean, seriously: How can someone in LA not know what movies are playing?

And he *is* de facto syndicated. Just because he's talking "locally" doesn't mean he's not syndicated. He's as syndicated as Kim Kommando and the 'obviously-local' Godfrey on KFYI.

Also, I wouldn't brag about being a lead-in to Imus. Just sayin'....

Joe Crummey isn't new to New York. He worked on WAPP and WNBC as E J Crummey as a DJ.

Between NY, LA and Phoenix, he'll either be rolling up lots of frequent flyer miles or be up at all kinds of hours for different audiences. :)

When I emailed Crummey, he made it sound like he would be leaving KTAR. No official word from the Master Blogger, but it will be announced soon.

Personally I would LOVE if they somehow could convince Kid Stevens to return to KTAR. I would put Kid in pm drive, Gaydos in at nights and can the bumbling stumbling fool known as mac.

"New York native and talk veteran Joe Crummey returns to Talk WABC-AM/New York on October 11 to host 10am-noon weekdays. Crummey, who most recently hosted talk programming for KTAR-FM and KFYI-AM/Phoenix, has also hosted shows on KFI-AM and KABC-AM in Los Angeles."

Honestly, I've never understood the appeal of his show. Joe Crummey's delivery is so phony (puking like a typical oldies jock) and disingenuous that I don't know how he connects with listeners. I say this all the time but it is applicable here, too; whatever happened to talking like a normal human being? Why not try being conversational? There isn't really substance to his show, it's your typical toaster talk with very give-and-take with the audience... snore. Then again, the bar is set pretty low for talk radio in this market. Jim Sharpe is ten times the host that Crummey believes himself to be... in fact, I think Jim is the best local news/talk host in Phoenix as of /right now/. Although I do love the 'lovable one' as well :).

I really enjoyed The Evil One's show opener when he was on KFYI. Very creative!

I have to agree with you about Jim...he is an excellent talk show host and really connects with his audience. What's more, he is just the same in person as he is on the air. He is the real deal!

And of course, the 'loveable one' is in a league of his own. My weekend would not be complete without listening to Jay pontificate from behind the mic.

Sure the Evil One pukes, but who cares? Crummey is intelligent, entertaining and puts a lot of effort into his show. So DEAL with it! The Nurse and I check in with the Lovable One Sunday nights as no one knows how to straddle a fence better. He's got a thing about liberal Krysten Sinema, even though her politics are 180 degrees from his. Must be those stylish glasses and her 1-900 sultry voice

IMHO, it's only a matter of time before Joe Crummey goes national. :)

If he goes national, then my show ought to be international--a sad commentary on the talent pool.
