Us New Yorkers are feelin' Crummey

Hey all, I am a new poster to this board but have been reading it for years and have been listening to Phoenix talk radio for over 20 years. I have a question about Joe Crummey. Why does he not do talk radio in LA? That is where he lives, there are plenty of talk stations in LA, so why does he not work in that market. While I have enjoyed his shows on KFYI and KTAR I always felt he was being disingenuous by trying to report on a town in which he has no vested interest in. And now, how fitting is it for Laurie Cantillo to put him on in New York when she was the original PD that tried to pull off that he was local on KFYI.

IMHO, it's only a matter of time before Joe Crummey goes national. :)

If he goes national, then my show ought to be international--a sad commentary on the talent pool.

It seems like anyone who works locally on WABC ends up going national. Sean Hannity was local in PM drive on WABC when he replaced Bob Grant. He went national on 9/10/01. Larry Kudlow was local on Saturday morning on WABC, he recently went national. Curtis & Kuby were doing very well in AM drive. They were dropped when Citadel wanted Imus on WABC as the flagship for his national show.

WABC has been a lab of sorts for national talk programming. If you get a following in the NY market, you go national. That's the formula. IMHO, that's why Joe Crummey will go national if he does well for WABC. :(

You didn't mention Mark Simone or Joe Scarborough. They both had that same time slot. I am interested in your opinion as to why Simone hasn't gone national. I enjoy the shows when he fills in for many other national folks.

I am also unclear on Scarborough's departure. He claimed that he was beating everyone in the ratings and that they were revamping his show for 3 hours.

Do you have any information on how much truth his statements contain?

Curious

Mark Simone does a live and local Saturday AM show, and returns at 6 PM to do "Saturday Night", which was "Saturday Night Oldies" during CBS-FM's JACK era. He fills in for Mark Levin and Sean Hannity. He also sat in for Scarborough while WABC searched for a new host to fill the slot between Imus and Rush. That's basically been Mark Simone's role, relief pitcher.

Don't know the full circumstances of Scarborough's departure. :)

Just a quick update for all parties interested. Joe Crummey officially begins his new show this coming Monday October 11th, 2010.

He shared this info via his twitter page.

I sure will miss the live and local.

WABC promotes Joe Crummey's time slot as "between 10 and Rush!" Crummey will start as live and local in NYC, but IMHO, he'll be national eventually. ;)

I saw the title of this thread and jumped to the conclusion that it was about the Yankees losing the ALCS. My mistake. But they did lose, didn't they? HA HA HA HA HA HA !!!!!!!

Guess that also dims the "effectiveness" of the Taco Hell XXL Chalupa TV spot with Girardi
and Rivera. Will it be less visible during the World Series? It is kind of clever though.

Perhaps a local version of the spot could be created, where manager Dr. Akbar brings in ace
closer Nurse Jeff to relieve the Old Gringo. ;D
