US. radio Hangs up on Madonna

There's another article on MSNBC website that says, Clear Channel has a lot to do with the lack of airplay in the U.S.

Madonna is a "victim" of niching. ???

It's not that she can put out a song and it instantly gets the airplay, despite the fact that she is known throughout the entire world and has been in the business for close to 25 years. Even the millenial generation (those in their teens and early 20's that weren't even born when Madonna came out with "Like A Virgin") know who Madonna is! These "consultants" have to figure where her "brand" fits in on their format. A lot of these guys have NO clue about dance music.

I am glad that the few dance stations we have in this country have the guts to spin "Sorry" and "Get Together". And radio wonders why they are losing their audience to alternative means (iPods, satellite radio, Internet streams)

BTW, great article! That just helps my argument to push for dance music even further.

I'm very curious to see if JUMP gets much airplay when it is released this Sep.
It should have more mass appeal.
I've heard they are determined to make it a hit.

I really like "Jump" too, but if they are just going to give it the same promo treatment in the US like they did with the two prior singles, US radio isn't going to pick it up. What Madonna needs to do is have some more aggressive promo in the US as far as interviews and TV appearences are concerned (do more of them, and have them concentrate on THE MUSIC and not on Kabballah or her movie career or whatever). She needs to do a radio promo tour in the top 10-15 markets. If she had done that instead of performing on the Coachella festival (which most of the Top 40 listeners don't care about) "Sorry" would have cracked the US Top 40 and "Get Togehter" would have charted as well.

That isn't the case at all. You need to read the article posted. The album was promoted but the cookie cutter stations in the US. are scared to play it.
It's the same arguement as to why stations are scared to play dance at all in this country.
