In the summer of '85, age 11, I was hooked on the game show reruns, especially 'The Gong Show', 'Make Me Laugh', and 'Bullseye'. I'd watched 'Cartoon Express' for a little while before that, but eventually gave up on the likes of 'Inch High, Private Eye', and 'Jabberjaw'(And that odd David ('Butch') Cassidy cartoon).
I didn't get into sports until after USA no longer had the rights to the NHL, NBA, and baseball.

Does USA still carry the Westminster Dog Show every February, or has that moved on to Animal Planet or a similar network? I haven't had cable for four years, so I'm not familiar with USA's current programming.
It's still on USA (and on CNBC). CNBC has the Monday coverage, USA has Tuesday.
...there's a batch of USA Pro Bowlers Tour videos, from the early '80s when the PBA ceased being an ABC exclusive, up on YouTube. For those who recall the days when Eddie Doucette's frantic pacing made Milwaukee Bucks radiocasts exciting in the early '70s, it's a shock to hear him doing second string bowling tournaments; Chris Schenkel, he ain't...
...and, of course, Joe Blanchard's San Antonio-based Southwest Championship Wrestling made an attempt to go national circa '82 by buying a Sunday morning hour on USA, even going so far as to hold a one-night tournament in Houston where Adrian Adonis was made an "Undisputed" World Heavyweight Champion. Southwest Championship was the only promotion that didn't dispute Adonis' strap, and after USA cancelled SCW for (1) excessive blood, (2) an angle in which one wrestler had actual pig poop poured over his head, and (3 and most of all) Blanchard stopped paying USA for the air slot, even Southwest quit using that "Undisputed" championship. USA sold the same hour to Junior McMahon for his WWF All-American Wrestling, and Southwest was later syndicated to some Spanish-language stations in Northern markets (I used to catch it on WBBS-TV/60 West Chicago in late '84)...

NBC has coverage Thanksgiving afternoon between the two broadcasts of the Macy's parade.I know they've done this for several years but what does that have to do with Thanksgiving?

I realized that it's the National Dog Show that NBC carries on Thanksgiving, but my comment about what does it have to do with Thanksgiving still stands.

About as much as the Detroit Lions playing football. Or as much as a parade of tethered helium balloons. Or green bean casserole.
At least those are live events that have a tradition of being on Thanksgiving day. It seems like the dog show is just a pre-recorded event that could be shown at any time.
P.S. Green bean casserole is one of the few Thanksgiving foods I don't like.

I share your opinion, yet since my daughter and her fiance are coming to dinner, I have to prepare it. However, I don't use any of the canned ingredients. I make it totally and completely from scratch with only fresh ingredients. It makes a world of difference.
To keep this on topic, it's like watching a televised production of a play featuring good actors versus watching a production of the same play starring people like Tony Danza.

This guy has been off the board since August and before that a year ago. He crawls back and starts "bumping" his own comments on various threads. I know we have people with big egos here but this is a bit much. Worst of all, he adds nothing to a thread that's been dead for a year - just an egotistical bump. In any case, maybe he'll see my comment next time he logs on six months to a year from now, to bump his favorite threads again.
In the meantime, maybe the board software can be jiggered to stop "bumps." Even better, when a thread has no activity for 30 days, it automatically gets locked down.

That has as much chance of happening as them sticking to a policy of keeping threads of nothing but lists collected together in one place. It ain't gonna happen.
Been trying for YEARS to get a reasonable anti-bumping policy instated here, but it has just never happened. By the way, he is not even the worst offender. We have those on here who basically bump EVERYTHING, whether it is their thread or not.

On the other hand, if there is an interesting thread out there in the archives, and a new development comes along that's germane to the old thread, I'd rather see the old thread revitalized with a new, content-rich post that revives a good discussion. But there's a world of difference between reviving an old thread with new content and a damn "bump" post.
I posted this in a thread about changes to the board but nothing has been done about it yet. If a thread is ongoing for several months or possibly years then it should be allowed to continue. If a thread goes for 3 months or more without a real update (not just a bump) then it should be locked.
