USA Today articles about HD

Note that I mentioned these articles on the Boston board and pointed out the bit about how they
expected 1 million people to own HD radios by now but it's maybe half that and someone pointed
out they were at a store and saw some HD radios half price, "open box"--he surmised that they
were returned because they didn't work...

HD Radio Sends Strong Signal But Audience Weak

It points out the selling point of "FM sounds like CD, AM sounds like FM". Admits: "But the format has gained little traction since HD Radio receivers became available more than two years ago. As few as 500,000 listeners have bought the new radios needed to tune in." Blames the economy.

More cars sing with digital radio (wow! Makes ya wanna buy a Hyundai, eh...)

I have yet to drive a car with HD radio; I have a fairly new Toyota and put XM in it with Sure Connect
and usually it runs well, and recently I drove a rental with Sirius factory installed. Wonder if I will
get a rental eventually with HD...

Is Gannett still a shareholder in iBiquity?

I know Gannett was one of the founding partners in "USA Digital Radio", but did they retain a interest after they sold their radio stations? If so, they should have made "full disclosure" of that relationship in these articles.

McPaper.... Not exactly the most accurate source of news. That's for damn sure! I'd take what they put in their rag with a grain of salt and a marini or some other stong alchoholic beverage because a person would need to be preety drunk to believe about half of what Mama Gannett writes.

The instant they reprinted tripe like this:

"The digital FM signals rival CD quality..."

...they lost all credibility.

All of the above comments re: lack of USA Today candor are quite true, but I must give credit where credit's due: at least the subheadline over the illustration declared in boldface:

HD Radio Not Taking Off
