Used equipment

Looks like Bay Country has one VHF transmit unit available. I saw a UHF transmit unit out on eBay. Used Marti units are available all over the place.

I think the OP may have posted earlier about multipath issues. If that's the case, you may want VHF if you are in hill country. VHF might be a bit more forgiving with line-of-sight issues. If that's a rural area, there should be VHF channels available. The main downside is that you have to carry a larger antenna, but that doesn't matter if you are using a van with a mast anyway.

You can always use a police scanner or comms receiver to pick up RPU channels in a pinch, but the performance and audio quality probably won't be as good. At least it's something to use while your regular receiver gets repaired.

Phil let me in on some equipment but two Moseley units are no longer permitted for use.
If my competition found out they'd "tattle tale" to the FCC. I could use two discreet units.
He has two I can use immediately I need two more in the 950 range.
 
If you are talking about the 505s they can be used in backup service only. J- squared and a few others can put a mod in them to bring the spurious down to legal if you want to go that route too.

Are 606's still acceptable for use or does it have to be the 6010 series and newer?

Do you mean discrete as in sending L/R audio? You could get a set of composite units and see if you can get your hands on a DSP6000 codec or like to send the stereo channels as discrete L/R. Otherwise, just use the composite and move the processor/stereo generator to the studio.

Remember that for an STL system you now have to use one of the FCC-approved frequency coordination services to file to license the path. Better make sure it's 100% legal if someone is out to get you.
 
Parts for the 606 series are getting hard to find. J-Sq does a good job fixing 'em tho.
If you get a used 606 open all the cans and remove that black foam. It's probably disintegrating badly already plus the out gassing destroys the trimmer caps.

Moseley sent a replacement IC that made our 505C type accepted. Has the FCC sticker on it too.

I already have the paths set out and approved just need the equipment.

I would buy a composite BUT if it goes down I am off the air.

If one of the L/R discretes goes down I am at least up with a mono signal.

Guess I never thought of it that way. The same is true with the digital systems, if they are down both channels are gone. However, is there that much cost difference between running discretes and just buying an extra set of composite gear to keep as a spare? Either way, you still wind up with 4 boxes. Most of the newer ones will do composite or mono.

If you have a Marti, you can also use it as an emergency STL for a certain amount of time...maybe 30 days or something like that.
 
While I do have the PCL-303s, which can be sold elsewhere, I also have Marti units which are still approved... and two smaller paraflectors. Pictures are avaliable and the price is right.
I've had my share of "tire kickers" on the basement gear. Annoying.
 
Used stuff will always attract lookers. If they annoy you, the best course is probably to submit the entire lot to one or two of the secondhand dealers and sell it in a bunch. You'll get less, but won't be annoyed as much. guns or butter....

I get annoyed at those who call, desperate for what you have, want you to hold it and don't have the courtesy to call back and say "never mind". And you know who you are.
