USED HARRIS 'GATES ONE' OR 'MW-1 / MW-1A' WANTED...

I've tried eBay and the national used transmitter sellers, to no avail. So, I'm trying
this board, in case somebody has a solid state AM for sale. This is for a client,
that won't buy Armstrong at $8,000 or Nautel / Harris at $14,000, new...so please,
don't suggest these options. Our e-mail is [email protected] or [email protected].

Many thanks, for your time, and consideration.

It's too bad that your client won't consider a new transmitter and only wants to consider transmitters that are inferior and not supported anymore. I have had station owners approach me about projects like this, I politely turned them down since a situation like this will be sucking up most of your time and attention in the future. And guess who the client is going to blame when the transmitter proves it's unworthyness? I have to question him not being willing to even consider an $8000 Armstrong.

Good luck my friend, if your client gets what he wants, expect this to the a headache for you for a very long time.

Sounds like your client is alittle short on the stroke! Those type always made me nervous! I;m thinking, will i get paid? I hated working on boxes older than me!

I have a client with a MW-1 in storage. Don't know if they want to sell...I'll ask. Don't know it's history except it was pulled from service in 2006 because of a power increase.

If those are your options, go with the Gates One. The other two will be nothing but trouble for you. Don't be fearful of the Nautel Ampfet 1kw transmitter. They are great boxes and well supported. If you find one of them, grab it. I personally think they are better than the J1000s. Although the gates one is "unsupported" you probably won't be having to fix much in it. They are solid boxes. All the total screw-ups of the crappy MW-1s were pretty much cured in the Gates One.

I've been repairing MW-1's since 1978 and know the units well, as well as the upgrades.

I also own a Gates One, as well. A fine unit.

As much as prior posts want to speak negatively on MW-1, if you know the unit, and
can set them up correctly, from Day One, they really are not that bad.

There's an MW-1 in Indiana that isn't working and can be had for any reasonable offer...as in a couple hundred bucks.
