Using a 8100ST as leveler for Texar's

It's a subjective choice. There is a tradeoff involved, and different people will see the useful break point at different places in the spectrum of choices.
Prices slightly higher in the West and the South. ;)

These Combinators doesn't get enough credit. As a backup chain, I'm running an MDX-4000 (set to leveling) into a graphic EQ & into another MDX-4000 (set for minor amounts of agressive limiting) into the test inputs of an Orban 8000. Took a lot of experimenting to get it where I wanted it, but it sounds pretty amazing for a pile of $400 Ebay boxes...You don't have a Service Manual that shows alignment procedure by some chance? There are dozens of trim pots in there & with the right documentation, I'd thoroughly enjoy playing with my extra "spare" 4000.
