USING A CP803 COMPOSITE CLIPPER WITH THE 8200 OPTIMOD

Has anyone used a composite clipper with an 8200 Optimod with good results?
I know some composite clippers have a built in limiter placed for before the clipper to increase loudness,so giving more density before the clipper.
AEV and other companies have these types,i think they call them composite processors.
I have a MSI CP803 clipper that has no vca processor built in,but just a straight forward clipper(with pilot protection).

It would be interesting if anyone has used this type of clipper with the 8200,and have they increased the loudness without increasing audiable distortion.
My idea would to back off the final clipper on the 8200 to say -1db,and then use the cp803 for say +2b clipping,so giving 1db loudness increase.

Thanks,
Paul.

I have found no useful gain in loudness while using an Optimod 8200 with either an 803 or a Dividend. The 8200 is clean and loud enough without adding those boxes.

I've been able to do exactly what you're suggesting with positive results - though I leave my 8200 final clippers at the 0 dB setting.

The MSI box has never been my favorite composite clipper. It's not the loudest or the cleanest by far, but I would rather use it than get aggressive with the final clipper built into the 8200.
