Using Slacker.com to set up your own station

I was wondering if anyone knows more about using Slacker to run your own station. You can pick your own station name, and use one of the existing stations and modify it by adding and deleting certain songs and artists, plus it has a code that you can copy into a myspace account and stream your station from there. You could create a myspace acount just for the station, and relay your station through it and all of your friends could listen to your personalized station. I know a Slacker station would be pretty crude and un profesional compared to Shoutcast, Live 365, and WMA streamers, but since it would be free, is it woth creating a station just for fun to share with your friends? Im thinking about doing it cause it is totally free of charge, and all the music is already licensed, to run a Shoutcast station you technically are supposed to pay Riaa and sound exchange fee's, although most small stations are just pirated, if you get popular enough and gain enough listeners you will have to go legit, and then there is the outrages bandwidth cost. Im thinking Slacker might be good to set up a personalized stream on shoutcast, although you wont have full control of exactly what songs/artists are added. Its easy enough that any 10 yr old could setup their own station to stream to their friends.

Well ive set up a station on Slacker now. The name is Z-93.7, Plays the best in House, Electronica, Break Beat, Uk Garage, Miami Bass, Freestyle, and a small touch of underground hip hop. I just set the station up last night, so im gonna fine tune it before I make it publicly available. If anyone wants a sneak peak, I can send you the link to your email. If you want, feel free to PM me with your Email address, and I will send you the link to the station. Constructive critisism is much welcomed.

Hey I took your advice and set up a station through Slacker.com on My Space. I like this service alot. It cost me nothing. This station is a mix of thrash metal, hair bands and rock.

I think Internet radio is just gonna get bigger and bigger. Computers are revolutionizing the way we buy and listen to music. I work for terrestrial radio but I'd rather listen to Internet or Satellite radio because of much fewer or no commercials and more expansive playlists.

:D I knew someone would make a comment like that. After I posted that I thought later maybe I shouldn't have said that. But I've worked in terrestrial radio for 25 years. I still think 95 percent of listeners listen to regular radio over internet or satellite. So I work to please those listeners and advertisers. Besides, I still listen to terrestrial radio in the car. But satellite and internet radio are growing fast.

By the way if you put your slacker.com station on My Space advise your listeners to use the Mozilla Firefox browser because it doesn't work on Internet Explorer.

It worked on IE for me, but my station crashes and I lost my whole customized playlist. The software still has a few bugs, but I think it will be great in a year or two.
