just got a way to do ustream with royalties paid,, but i just got a letter from comcast stating that they are now doing bandwidth caps at 250 GB a month i think it was, 250 something, i think its GB.. Should i worry about going over that with streaming on ustream 24/7 at 720x405@600kps, aac 44.1k Stereo BTW, I use audio only, their is no picture video streaming at all... THNKS.

CRAPCAST with their most evil move yet.. Who do they think they are telling us how much bandwidth we can have. we have to pay an outrageous price to them every month the way it is, for crappy non hd cable,, unreliable phones that disconnect and drop calls for no reason, and the internet works just intermittently turning itself off and on at its own will,, they blocked the ports 8080 so i cant stream with Radio Destiny anymore, plus it wont let me stream on shoutcast or use any shoutcast icecast, or peercast software. Crapcast and all other companys that block ports and have bandwidth caps should be boycotted.

I have done the best investment which was available to me.....Verizon FIOS! I used to have comcast before this whole limitation of bandwith came along, thats why I had to put 96.7 Party on Live365's standard broadcast.

Let's see.... 600kps. If that's 600 kilo bits per second you'll be using 200.88 GB a month. (600 x 60 seconds x 60 minutes x 24 hours x 31 days) That's pushing Comcast's limits.

So thats under the 250 kbs, so will non bandwidth normal usage be okay?

I would stay away (if you can) from cable internet. I use earthlink and stream all day with out any problems. Down time has been only twice in the last 5 years.

i admit to being totaly ignorant about bandwidth..i ustream a radio show live with cam 8 hours on sat night and 4 -6 hours on sunday night. i will have 90 to 100 hits per night with around 20 or so listening at one time. i have comcast with roughly 20 megs down and 1.5 megs up..usualy have zero problems..would someone explain bandwidth in simple terms for me..thanks..pj

Comcast has a 250 KBS bandwidth cap,, which means how much internet you are allowed to use. I am glad i got clued in, I lowered my bandwidth abit so i should be OK.. i only get a few hits a day, but my station is 24/7. so im still worried. My bandwidth is now 350 instead of 600.

I was under the impression that if I dumped Time Warner Cable and went to Earthlink, the service would still come through Time Warner's system, and would therefore be subject to the same cable outages. Worse, with no formal regulation to prevent it, Earthlink's customers could be subjected to any limitations or caps that TWC might choose to impose. Am I mistaken?

As I read it, the decision made by the court against the FCC opens the door for any cable system to limit the amount of bandwith on individual streams etc. I guess if I were a cable company and I sold telephone over cable I would see to it that any other phone companys using internet over broadband ( Vonage, Skyp, Magic Jack etc ) would connect at just slightly less bandwith than they needed to operate. Same goes for TV over internet or your streaming radio station. Time to switch to DSL

Time to switch to DSL....i'm still unsure about all this bandwidth discussion..and how it applies to streaming music and video. i looked up info on comcasts site and saw where they have limited it to 250..and they had a chart that showed how many thousands of songs you would have to download, how many hours of hulu, you would watch, and how many pics you could email..etc..before you reached that limit..as for my self..i would never come close to that many downloads or pics..i do watch quite a bit of old tv shows on hulu..but usually no more than 4 hours one or two nights per week..but i'm totaly in the dark concerning the music/video stream i do on weekends..and how much bandwidth it uses..as for DSL..i had that through bellsouth(at&t) for over 10 years until i started the radio shows..there was not enough upload speed available to run the cam and music at the same time..i had the best package available to me and only had 3 megs down and barely 250kbs up..switched to comcast for the same money per month and have consistent 15 plus megs down and 1.5 megs up with only a minor burp in the stream on rare occasions. i'm paying for a package of 12 megs down and 1.5 up..so i seem to be getting what i pay for..most times when i check..i am closer to 20 megs down..thanks to any who can explain what i'm using in terms of bandwidth ..cl

Ive suspended web streming for now. Ustream isnt even legal if your not paying royalties. i didnt know this at first and im sure most dont know or care, but I dont want a court case and a 500 dollar comcast bill.

You can try Live365 standard broadcasting. You don't need to run your PC 24/7 just to stream. That's one feature I like about Live365.

Thats the plan d21.. Live 365 keeps you legal for less. and it uses their servers and not your bandwidth.
