The University of Texas is the latest to take steps to put its music and news programs on separate stations. Recall KUHF Houston Public Radio did this last year, when it bought KTRU from Rice University.
UT is in the process of buying KXBT FM in Leander for a reported $6 million dollars. If it goes through, and no one doubts that it will, KXBT FM will be the sister to UT's KUT FM. The plan is for KUT to carry news and public affairs programs, and move its music and arts programming to KXBT. The calls will probably change to KUTX FM.
