UT Radio

It depends on where you're picking up the games. I know of some networks that are using internet streaming for syndication, though I don't think that's the case with the Vol Network. Some affiliates air the games off internet stream.

I've also noticed that the UT gamebroadcast on 104.5 The Zone seem to be a few seconds behind the UT broadcast on other Vol affiliates (94.7 The Country Giant, 104.1 the Ranch, etc.). Why is that?

That's very common on a lot of networks. It's not specifically unique to UT. And it's not limited to sports. It's very common on syndicated talk. I believe a CE can explain that better than I can. That is, if you want a more technical explanation.

Its possible that 104.5 still has their profanity delay on line during the games, whereas some of the smaller market stations probably dont have a delay at all.

I've noticed a delay when I'd watch a UT game on TV and listen on the radio, and Bob Kesling would be yelling "Touchdown Tennessee" 5 seconds or more after it actually happened on TV. This happens on a fairly regular basis, and I'm usuallly listening on Kool 103 in Jackson or WTRO in Dyersburg, neither of which have a need for a delay since they're both oldies stations.

FYI...there is no delay at the TRN satellite uplink: what's being fed on ISDN from Knoxville goes straight to the bird
(there is a minor delay due to the hop to the satellite and back...but it's less that 0.25 second)
same thing for VU and PREDS

So everything's run out of gamesite? There's no MC (Master Control)? That sounds cool. Do you use laptops to feed into ISDN or actual remote equipment?

no...UT stuff comes from Citadel in Knoxville (WIVK or The Sports Animal)...
they produce the game, and send it to TRN via ISDN. just pointing out no delay on the uplink

I've also notice it Titans games. There will be a several second delay from what occurs on the broadcast from 104.5 the Zone and what occurs on other stations that broadcast the Titans games, with 104.5 the Zone being 5 to 7 seconds behind than the other stations. And they're the flagship station for the Titans.

A note:

Some Vol Network affiliates get their feed by way of Tennessee Radio Network. Some other affiliates get their feed by relaying another stations on air signal. Some of these will be delayed due to profanity delay.

I used to work for a station that has a profanity delay. For a while they would switch it off during non-talk shows, but after several incidents of forgetting to turn itg back on, they found it was easier just to leave it on all the time
