KSL-AM, now heard on FM as Bonneville flips its Hot AC to an apparent simulcast, is the first of two FM talk stations in the Salt Lake City market.
KFMS 97.5 will soon also launch with Michael Savage, recently pulled from CC's KNRS, as well as Jerry Doyle (wonder why), local hot/sports talker Tom Barberi (last of CC's KALL), and Mancow. Having spoken with a few PDs in Utah, it has become apparent to me that no one would pick up any kind of liberal talk host. Newbie KTKK ran Ed Schultz, then moved him to overnights to reduce listener threats, then had him pulled by Jones. If Ed Schultz won't appeal to listeners' palettes, and talk stations see no viability in AAR or libtalk, how will Mancow survive? In a market where Bonneville owns leading stations setting a standard, including the refusal to air beer commercials, how is this hot talk trend going to work?
If Barberi's anti-Mormon act didn't work with the publicity of Clear Channel on 700, how would anyone expect Mancow to work? And as I stated on the Utah board, if you're going to try it, keep it hot all day and put Leykis on in PMD.
