UV Longevity

With last year's departure of Art Steinberg from Q106, who now stands as the longest continuously serving jock with one station in the Upper Valley? Jason and Traci? Doug Mackenzie? Steve Smith?

Imus doesn't count.

In order, if my memory serves me right:

#1 - KIXX's Jason and Traci (7+ years)
#2 - Rock's Steve Smith (about 5 years)
#3 - XL92's Doug McKenzie (3 or 4+ years)

What about Dave Morgan who does news breaks / time checks on WNTK, he's got to have at least 15 years continuous on that station..

Is Norm MacDonald still kicking it at KIXX??? If so... we're talking 75 years... same station. ;)

I think Dave Morgan has been there since WNTK first started.

Below is my take of who's who & where:

1) Jason & Traci / Kixx
2) Shep Sutton / Oldies
3) Doug McKenzie / XL
4) Steve Smith / Rock
5) Mike Barrett / Kixx
6) Matt Cross / Rock
7-tied) Heath Cole / Wolf (would be higher if not for the Wolf/Bob flip)
7-tied) Chris Garrett / Oldies

CC's Pam Bixby made the switch from KIXX to XL a few years back and then back again. Otherwise, I think she be in a tie with either Jason and Traci, or Shep Sutton, with 6 or 7 years.
Edited by DOB on 03/13/06 02:11 AM.

A few other "longevity thoughts":

-Is "Jer Bear" still doing that Dead show on 99 Rock? Not a fan and never listen but seems to me it's been around a while.

-Mitch on The Peak is the lone holdover from the WEBK/K105/pre-Yankees days, if I'm not mistaken.

-While Leif Erickson is still "active" with the same cluster of stations in the Valley, I suppose we can't count him, now that he's physically based in another market. Still, he tracks for Oldies under the Leon Strong handle, but was with the Q for quite a while, at least back to the Tom Hoyt days? I know he's been on air in some form here longer than Shep, but probably not as long as Jason and Traci (they go back to the old Magic trimulcast, do they not?), and definitely not as long as Chris Garrett.

-Seems to me Greg Hooker's been on the Point for many years, though not technically a "Valley" station.

-What about Drew Johnson? He seems to come and go, and come, and go, etc.

Longevity ain't what it used to be. We'll never see any Ray Reeds or Art Steinbergs in this market again.

As a previous poster mentioned some time ago, Ray Reed is definitely a class act.

Art Steinberg was a good guy and the last link to Q106's "glory days".

Yeah, you know why? They put up with cheap owners for years instead of try to advance their careers. I'm sure they could have moved up if they had the talent.

Specialty shows, and out of town AAA stations don't count.

Oh, and "Stupidhead", 've been reading these boards awhile. you seem to post about Leif Erickson often. It's annoying. Are you in cahoots? Or maybe are him? If so, are you not getting enough attention in your new digs? Are you checking up on who remembers you? Most of your UV career was one big delusion of grandeur, anyway, with that whole savior-of-rock-and-the-ski-slopes shtick. But you won, the Nassau suits bought it. Just like they bought the Vox propoerties for such an outrageous price. It's all about knowing how to screw the system, right? God bless America.

Morgan has been there 17 years. He started a few months into my tenure there, which was in 1989.
