UV/Rutland Book

Pamal's the biggest beneficiary... WJJR and 'ZRT turned in great books (hope they send Lowry Mays a thank-you card for the second one.)

One big win for Nassau, as Bob Country... err... The Wolf finally surpassed Kixx.

Otherwise, Nassau's properties continue their slide. Rock 93.9/101.7 destroying Q106. Have you heard some of the WEIRD music the Q's been playing lately? Straight from the I-man's I-pod! Oldies just seems to keep getting weaker each year. Less incentive for this station to EVER update their website again (news flash... Shep Sutton hasn't been "on air" in afternoons in nearly a year.) Oldies used to be fun to listen to... now it's about as lively as WHOM. More people are listening to WHOM than this station now... go figure.

In the AAA "battle", The Point edges out WEBK.

99 Rock? OUCH. Not to worry, plan on Chris Garrett returning to WGXL when Shapiro and Galluzzo bring back the "old" XL92. I'm sure they'll consult the experts at The Carpet Mill. I'm sure the college kids would love to see CG out of there.

There they are, the numbers to live on for the next six months!

WOW! Somewhere in Cat Country there are people wallowing in their tears...Perhaps a better signal will increase the book? What will it take to fix Cat? Better talent? Better mix of country? Turn it into something else? Maybe its time for Pamal to re-think the whole WEBK experiment as well and put Cat in its place? There's more to life than Rutland County Mr. G...And will WEXP ever get out of its funk? Meanwhile JJR and ZRT shine...nice deal for Pamal it seems...someday they will rule the world! ;D

From what I understand, Cat Country smoked everyone in a huge way, across all demos, in the Rutland County breakout.. There must have been some evenly distributed books in Rutland County since WVNR made a very small appearance..

Dudeman2000,

I guess your probably right, Cat Country would have to be "wallowing in their tears", as you say... yeah, they are tears of JOY I'm sure, after their victory in Rutland County. A far as "Fixing Cat" I don't think anyone in Pamal is going be spaying or neutering that kitty anytime soon, as a matter of fact, other stations should prabably consider reproducing what the Cat has to offer: The Best Talent, Cutting Edge Production, and here is the big one, the fact they are in tune with their listers and understand what they like and dislike. As far as putting Cat in its place, I would say it is in it's place, #1 in Rutland County. A better signal, Dudeman, they kicked butt with the one they have, it doesn't get better than that, does it? Incase you missed it, they are #1. Dudeman, I have a question for you, how long have you been in radio and what have you done there? My guess would be, 6 mo. and at the most maybe a board-op? I base this on your past postings as well as this one, they are very inaccuate and make it clear you are not used to gathering data from "The Book". You should get the facts straight before you make posting, it makes you look like a "Rookie", eeeuh that's not good.

I've been around long enough to know when I hear bad country radio...If you've read my posts from before, you would know that I have said Cat should be #1 just by showing up...but the book is more than just dwindling population in Rutland County! Lets be realistic...the talent is old and weak...the imaging is ancient and the playlist needs work...and the production? C'mon...how many spots can one guy do? Fix it and move it to 105.3...it can rule the Upper Valley...what would happen if Nassau switched 101.5 to country? What if 101.5 was good classic rock? Your number in Rutland County would most likely disappear...talk to your listeners...and not just the old folks who keep diaries. They will tell you the same things I do.

I know you are proud of Cat since you obviously work there, and I mean no disrespect to you and the old timers ...but Cat is #1 in Rutland County (and mostly Rutland City since you can't get the signal anywhere else) because its Country...NOT because its good Country. Sorry...

Wow, that's pretty harsh commentary. Both 101.5 and 94.5 have roughly the same signals and coverage in Rutland County. Like the old saying goes, "If it works well, beat it to death". Cat's numbers from what I know are what they are.. huge, and with growth. That is not being stagnant. The production is fine at the station, and they are very fortunate to have someone with DB's huge talents there. At least define what you are talking about. What in your opinion is a good country or classic rock station. Give us some examples of those types of stations in similar sized markets . Tell us how you would program those stations and what elements you see are missing. Do it up.
Le purr..

Hey Dudeman:
How are things? Just remember everything changes.
I heard that WSYB will be putting it's format on WEBK's stick. Full service AM.
So much for Cat Country going there. Oh well. It should be interesting.
Jack, Brian, and Philbin should be thrilled.
We are OK at CAT. It's good to be #1. After all...90 percent of WZRTs income comes from Rutland County...oh yeah it's good to have listeners in the pucker brush. I may have to get a quart of milk so I should drive to Hinsdale to pick it up because they advertised a dairy sale on the radio. Very practical. Not!
Good luck making sense of it all. I know it must all seem kind of complicated but that's why web sites like these exist.
Hang in there.
:)

Good to hear that someone there is using their noggin'. Also good to see your tongue off the skillet! Too bad talk on 105.3 will take away from the beloved Cat...if what you say is true...it will be good to hear a good morning show in the UV. Maybe we can hear your brilliance on the new 105.3?

Oh..it appears everyone you work with is very sensitive...no offense... ::)

Good to see WJJR back on top. btw....whatever happened to Jay Scott who did mornings for a couple of years on WJJR w/Nancy Gordon when Terry J went to Burlington. I believe Terry J came back and Jay Scott was no longer on. Is he still with the station in another capacity? He was very entertaining, creative and tight on the air. I used to enjoy his " Lunchtime at the Oldies Show". The good old days of great programming.

"Jay Scott" hit the programming jackpot in Albany by putting on the air a very successful (in terms of audience / ratings) soft AC / standards hybrid. That station is Magic 100.9 WKLI. It is in the same ownership as WJJR etc.

At the end of the day, do these ratings really mean anything in this small market ? The familiar 50kw stations will always stay on top whether there are 100 consultants telling the PDs what to do, or they program in-house. I say no real benefit regardless.

It is good to see this.

NO DAG is right. Instead of trying to find a way to make WEBK #1 in the Market (will never happen) perhaps Debbie Grembowicz and her sales team should learn to sell WEBK instead of shifting blame to programming. Pamal has a good control on that market, the stations do not need to come in 1,2,3,4 in the ratings as long as the revenue is there.

K105-The Mountain was an awesome AAA station to be sure, probably the best that I've heard in that format.
What Pamal did to that station in October, 2003, by blowing out the staff and eviscerating the format was terrible. Adding baseball games just added insult to injury. WEBK had become completely generic and sterile.
That said....WEBK is once again becoming a very cool sounding AAA station. Apparently a new Program Director was hired a few months ago that understands the AAA format. These days, I'm hearing a very good mix of AAA,
Alternative, some new wave and fairly deep Classic Rock tracks. They've even added a Grateful Dead show again,
as they used to run in the old days. Hopefully, they will keep this up!!!!

The new PD of WEBK does indeed know his stuff. It's too bad that the weekends and evenings will be filled soon with the sounds of Yankee Baseball. The station is on the right track albeit with a huge hiccup of Yankee Baseball for the entire season. I don't think sports of that type of a broadcast commitment and AAA mix well together.
