V-100 How long will Radio One keep this dog on life support?

In the latest ratings, they are tied for 25th place with KSSE, a Class A spanish top 40 station and only .1 point ahead of KJLH, another limited market Class A station! They are the lowest rated FM station licensed to Los Angeles.

How long can Radio One keep this DOG on life support? It has to be embarrassing to them, not to mention it must be losing its shirt!

They've only been in format for two books...I'm sure the don't want to pull the plug too early if there's a way to fix it.

It's kinda sad about V100 because as R & B stations go, it's a good sounding one with a more sophisticated sound and playlist. The problem is that L.A. seems to be a very "unsophisticated" radio market for it's size and that in turn makes for a hard sell on the advertising/billing side of radio...It's kind of a shame for terrestrial radio as a whole, but very symptomatic of where radio is going. It's a canned type of listening audience that doesn't seem to appreciate unique radio programming. When you've got KSCA(spanish), KIIS and KROQ at or near the top, that sorta tells you everything you need to know.

If you get the chance to listen to a station like KBLX up in SF, you'll find that it sounds great, is very different and is very sophisticated, music wise. And it does consistently well in the ratings. Listen online when you can!

I don't see why you call it "unsophisticated" since the main difference is that 75% of the market is ethnic (42% Hispanic, 12% Asian, 8% Black) or immigrant (Persian, Russian and other non-ethnic immigrant whites). The market is simply responding to its makeup, ethnically and demographically (over 50% of 18-34 is Hispanic).

KROQ is 7th, with KFI, KLVE, Power and KOST ahead of it. Both KIIS and Power are over 50% Hispanic, too.

Maybe 100.3 should drop the R&B and go back to its roots as KIQQ. They could play the big LA hits from 1970-1985 live and local 24/7 with big name personalities.

With the rumors about KHHT, I say 92.3 the Beat reappears and screws Radio One big time.
