V100 Sound

I'm in Athens, OH and it actually comes in pretty well here... i discovered this station and thought it was AC, but hearing Selena Gomez, Mike Posner, and Evanescence made me re-think! I listened and their imaging is good with them tagging the songs at the end of each song. Also, during their 9am hour when I discovered them, they didn't play hardly any commercials! I know they used to be West Virginia's Best Variety... now Today's Hits & Yesterday's Favorites as they're more current now. They still have a pretty good 7 share in the ratings after having a 10 in the spring 09 book. What are your thoughts?

I think the WV boards are very limp. There are very few post on topics so it must be that nobody really cares. There is some good radio in the Charleston area and there are some just so so stations. Really feel that most of the stations in the market would find it hard to compete if they were in other markets. There is no way Charleston area stations could compete with Pittsburgh, Raleigh, Greensboro, or even Roanoke. Most of the station are stuck in the past. Listen to V100 and nothing much has changed in years, WKLC is way old in their presentation, WV Radio has no idea how to move forward with their group, WQBE and WVSR are stale and just the same year in and year out, The Wolfe was a breath of fresh air and now it is getting old hat.

This board is a reflection of the management / owners of the stations mirroring the state of business in WV. I will never forget what the manager of the station that I worked at during High School said: “A town only get as good of a station that the advertisers will pay for.” Until the radio stations start making some serious money it will not get better.

When my grand mother was in failing heath and needed a family member within an hour or two from her home to make sure the nurses and cleaning people were doing their job, I tried to score a job in Parkersburg or Clarksburg. The fact that I had worked in larger markets (Ashville, Louisville and Cincinnati) put fear in one honest PD that told me I would come and take his job. I guess I will never work in WV.

That is a real shame! Are those so great in WV that every station is on target and there is nothing to talk about regarding radio in that state? I was amazed at the sound and the so so formats of a number of the stations in Charleston.

West virginia stations have never been "main stream". The major cities here have tried to force "it" in the ears but the advertisers won't buy it. West Virginians like what they like and that's why only a few 'nitch' formats have any success. The CC's of the world are operating the biggest of the stations and they just "don't get it". Just because it plays in New York or LA doesn't mean a thing here. I would say they could get rich if they went "local", but there's no one left in radio that knows what that means. sad ???
