V103 Does IT! II

GOOD GRIEF! I almost had to run to Wal-Mart to buy a pair of glasses to make sure I was seeing correctly! (...And "Back seat" by DEV? I wasn't even aware that this was that well known out there yet - only one station plays it.... or are people discovering it through the use of internet (because when does MTV ever play music anymore)? Either that, or WWVA is having some type of impact, unless it was thrown in the mix as a "risk").

I wonder what version of "Suavamente" they used? V103 es jammin la musica mas caliente ahorra? Exitos y mas??
The dream is real, folks.

KDM 7000, I don't know why you are so surprised. I told you guys that V starts to lean rhythmic during certain times of the year to pull in a wider range of listeners. Most likely it was DJ Baby Yu, whom was doing the mixing last night since he seems to be only one that does it on-air.

Just watch, during the summertime months they will be adding a few crossover hits into their regular rotation.

Is this an absolutely sure thing?

And if they're going to be doing this every now and then, then couldn't they just have a weekly hour mixset or something on the weekends featuring both modern regular and crossover hits (just like they do with the old school)? Either that, or have something like "Club V" or something playing things similar to what was posted above? The only problem there, however, would be that if they did it, it will have to be during the day since they already mix into the night on weekends... unless they put it right before (or after) the live club broadcast. But then again, their reggae specialty mix is during the day... I see they "randomly" played "S&M" by Rihanna this morning.

V has been adding rhythmic hits to its regular rotation for the last few years, but at the end of the day it is a highly competitive urban contemporary station that targets 18-49 year old blacks. I doubt it'll add a "club music oriented show" to its regular programming because it's just doing these specialty mixes to keep Wild on its toes while beating Hot at its own game, i.e. being "highly competitive". There is an unique formula that this station has been using very similar to what WPGC 95.5 in DC used to do pre-PPM, and that is appease the novel listener with crossover music but keep its core listeners satisfied. Their core audience isn't very fond of the most of the current "club oriented" music, but they do enjoy the New Wave and crossover stuff from the 1980s and 1990s.

WOW!

So I just happened to tune in right when V103 was sliding into an old school set and I couldn't believe

THEY ACTUALLY PLAYED STEVIE B!

First, it was the instrumental with someone else's vocals over it and I was like "no way, no they are NOT going to do this - they will throw something else on because... it just can't happen" and next thing I know, they BUST OUT with the OFFICIAL SONG! I had to pinch myself to see if I was dreaming, then pinched everyone else and the pets in the room because I still wasn't fully convinced that this was real! But...

THE DREAM IS REAL, FOLKS!

The last time Stevie B was played in Atl was during Cardio Radio when Susquehanna owned Q100, and I was like "wow they're really messing around - these people are probably not going to be around for long on this station". Not even THE GROOVE played Stevie B. - and that was the format that was supposed to represent that generation of latin freestyle!!

Wow! The wonders never cease. That's like somebody (other than me, of course) busting out with some Dj Kizzy Rock or Kilo in Az! As far as I remember, I never heard a Stevie B song on Power 99. But then again, I never heard "The Situation" by Yaz in Atl, either, yet someone posted on this board that someone was playing it in the very early 90's, so maybe I am wrong. I guess Z93 or something of that sort used to play things I wasn't aware of in the 80's and 90's.

Anyway, glad I actually tuned in because the song was not tracked. What will they do next? Bust out some "Silent Morning" by Noel or "One way love" by TKA? I'm sure Trinere or Will II Power is something they could use in an old school set. Anyway, this Mavado track on right now is pretty hot. I'll stick on longer for this reggae vibe they've got going on now. I'll call Stevie tomorrow and tell him what's up...
