i'm now sort-of/kind-of on vacation. much-needed break since my last stretch of more than a day off in January.
my thanks to one of our hard-working radio bretheren at WYNZ, Shane Deuben, for getting up too damn early in the morning next week to have some fun doing what he (and most of us) really loves doing - radio.
he's one of the more under-rated "part time" folks on the air in Portland - and i'm not just saying that 'cuz he's, well, getting up too damn early (yada yada yada)... he's likeable, personable and very smooth when he's on air.
i know other stations do a "Best Of" thing when the morning folk are away, some with regular go-to people to handle coverage.
any others like Shane out there that you've heard? ie: they do their thing and then step-up when needed, and sound freakin' great when they do, whether it's mornings, middays, afternoons or whenver?
if so - are they on-air in other dayparts? weekends?
serve up some props if you would. once in a while, it's nice when they spell your name right, and even nicer when it's accompanied by nice words.
me - i'm humming 10CC's "Dreadlock Holiday" right now. i've heard the proper way to end a conversation in Jamaica is "Yes, I would like another Red Stripe. Thank You."
(props to my mother-&father-in-law, Jean & Law O'Connor, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary by treating their kids and families - yep, THEIR treat - to a getaway. i work in radio, so who am i to argue...?)
