Last night, finally caught the 11PM new on 8. Busy Sunday, with no time other than then to catchup on the news. Last night was a surprise... Dave McKinley anchoring the news with John Stehlin in the same suit coat for the past 8-9 days straight...

Now I've seen just about everyone sitting in that chair... Seen Mo on fox, then Kevin (different since I've only ever seen female anchors there) now, if McKinley was on @ 11, he was surely on @10.

Back to McKinley... I'm a nobody in all of this, just a TV viewer, but Dave looked a bit like a deer in the headlights with the camera that close to him... He did fine, but he's definately has a strong body language on camera, he was always moving. It was a bit distracting, but considering that it was the first time I've seen him anchoring, (not sure if true or not) I can understand why...

Any insiders point of views ??

I was channel-hopping when I noticed Dave anchoring the news on Fox 31 so I decided to watch since I've known the guy for years.

You're right, he did seem a bit nervous at times. Remember however there is a big difference from doing packages, where one can do numerous re-takes (unless its a live shot) from live anchor duties.

My advice to McKinley is have a few shots of booze the next time you have to anchor; that will relax you. ;D

P.S. I love the crack about the weatherman wearing the same clothes for the past week. I've seen the guy just a few times and your right; he does seem to wear the same color suit. Now in his defense maybe he has several suits the same color. Who knows? However I have a feeling that this guy is not a long-termer at Channel 8. He went from morning drive to just weekends. I would consider that a serious wake-up call to get those tapes and resumes out there.

Hey, Rich Caniglia from Channel 10 always wear the same color suits. It annoys me to see him wear black all the time. He dresses better than Kevin Williams, but at least Kevin switches colors from time to time.

McKinley as an anchor has 0 credibility. It just goes to show you how desperate and poorly staffed 8 is. Did he offer his opinion and his humor (if you can call it that) on the anchor desk like he does when he is in the field reporting?

It was the first time he's ever anchored.

I called him,..and he confirms you're right.
It was the SECOND time he's ever done it. (although it was the 1st time for the Fox show because the only other time he did it was back in '04,.. before 8 took over Fox)

When told he had his critics here, he just said something like,..."you can't win 'em all" .. advising detractors not to worry because he was "just helping out" ...which indicates this was just a once in a blue moon sorta deal.
