If the talent has the time, they have to use it or lose it. I know a morning guy who has Carson like vacation time - 10-12 weeks. Most due to time served and being grandfathered with mergers.
Worked with a guy who would take 2 weeks at a time to go overseas every year. Did it in the summer, and he was a middayer. No sweat.
Usually one week is standard. No vacation Fall or spring book for on air talent. Production, anytime.<P ID="signature">______________

I've always been of a similar mindset.
Of course, we're ALWAYS "in a book" these days. Not sure the not-one-day-off-during-the-book applies anymore, yet I'm still hesitant about the week off thing spring/fall.

Most jocks are affraid to take a vacation for fear that the part-timer who fills in will be found to be "a nice change".

That's old-line, paranoid thinking. Only those who believe they're on-the- fence already think that way. Not saying it never happens, but if the jock is doing their job, a team-player and positive contributer on-air and in the hallways (is a value to his/her cluster), they have little to worry about.
