Anybody have a reliable and affordable source for vacuum tubes? I have a friend restoring a '60s vintage Hammond organ, and he needs some replacements. Sorry, but I don't have model numbers. Think '60s amplifier tubes.
There are many choices out there as folks still love the old flame bottles for their sound. Prices for some tubes have gotten pretty ridiculous however the volume of sale is fairly low I would image.
Many of the NOS (new old stock) tubes are still good however the newer copies can often sound just as good in most circuits. I'm not going to go down the road of the golden ears claims of one brand better than another. I go for whatever is cost-effective. I'm still working off some of the tube stash I got for free when they were to be thrown into the dumpster when there were no more tube amps out on lease from a early employer (MANY years ago).
Most of their tubes are new old stock. They have more than 10 million tubes in stock covering over 7,500 types and they hand test every tube before shipping. I know at least one of the people that works there. He's a retired university EE instructor and is very knowledgeable. They also export tubes by the container load to places like Asia, each one still hand tested.
