Valentino Says "Ciao Bella" At WMEZ-From ALLACCESS

Valentino Says "Ciao Bella" At WMEZ
PAMAL AC WMEZ (SOFT ROCK 94.1)/PENSACOLA middayer LU VALENTINO has resigned her post and is looking for her next on-air challenge.

Geez, I also read today the Promotions Director quit for both Soft Rock & WXBM. Is there any rumor to the truth that Valentino will be going to across the street to Cumulus? Or is she leaving the market? I really enjoyed listening to her show, and she is a cutie. When is Pamal going to learn? They have become such a joke here. Anyone know why Lu left? Or is it the obvious that Pamal is a joke?(lol)

This is the first I have heard of it since I still keep up with things happening over there. I am not sure why Lu left but I will call her and find out. As for the promotions director, I heard she was let go back in the fall but I never got any details as to why. The last I heard they did not have a new promotions director and I'm not sure if they will be hiring another one or not.
I heard the station manager had taken over prmotions for now, but it's been a while since I have talked to anyone over there.

Valentino Says "Ciao Bella" At WMEZ-From ALLACCESS & R&R STREET TALK

FROM TODAY'S ALLCESS

Herrington Leaves WMEZ
Hot on the heels of PAMAL AC WMEZ (SOFT ROCK 94.1)/PENSACOLA middayer LU VALENTINO exiting last week (3/24), Promotions Director/Coordinator RACHEL HERRINGTON resigns. Her last day will be FRIDAY, APRIL 7. Reach out to her at [email protected].

FROM THIS MORNING'S STREET TALK
(3/27)

• Midday goddess Lu Valentino has departed Pamal AC WMEZ
(Soft Rock 93.1)/Pensacola, FL. “I now plan on giving my life
to Scientology and adopt babies with Angelina Jolie and Brad
Pitt,” she says. Upon hearing that, we immediately dispatched
a deprogrammer to make her watch the season premiere of
South Park 18 times — save her by quickly offering her a gig

Re: Valentino Says "Ciao Bella" At WMEZ-From ALLACCESS & R&R STREET TALK

I wonder what the hourly rate will be if she goes across the
street to Crumulus considering the average rate is $5.00 or
less. There is no way to make the big bucks on the NF's Gulf
Coast unless you are an owner (oh, wait -- not even an owner)
There is always ONE exception to the rule and that is NOT
Pamal or Crumulus. What a joke! Lu will be better out of the
market. Any marker above 200 will be willing to accept with
open arms. Try #44.

Re: Valentino Says "Ciao Bella" At WMEZ-From ALLACCESS & R&R STREET TALK

Too funny Tibbs! I agree. I used to work for Non-Cume-ULUS. I highly doubt Valentino will walk into another mess like where she just got out of.(Don't you think that's why she left?) Besides, she's really only done large and major market radio. She'll leave this market. My understanding is she and the former PD Anne Summers were friends from way back, that is why she moved here. I only wish her the best and I'll miss her on air, she was really awesome to listen to.

RAYD

Ps. NOTE TO TIBBS: At least Crum-ulus HAS a rate and actually sells spots. I know 2 sales people in the last 3 months that left 'MEZ. The sales mgr woman is useless in the biz and treated them like crap. THAT place IS a joke!
Oh and what is so special about market #44 Tibbs?

WMEZ has seen a lot of people leave, but their sister station WXBM has remained fairly stable over the past few years. I don't think WXBM has lost any full timers in the last 5 years, and I think another thing that makes them do well is the fact they have live DJ's on 24/7. I believe their overnight guy is the only live DJ during the overnights in the market, and I think he's been there for a while.

Maybe if WMEZ went live more, they may bounce back.

Re: Valentino Says "Ciao Bella" At WMEZ-From ALLACCESS & R&R STREET TALK

Hey bro, WMEZ is live 6am drive time all the way thru 7pm. It would be kind of difficult to have live traffic as it happens while they wer VT'ed..hello??? Even though the morning guy sounds like a robot. The PM drive is not that bad at all. And it takes a company, unlike PAMAL, to pay more attention to just one of their stations. MAYBE if they had dumped $$ into it and got the tower up would be a start. I'm not gonna buy 'maybe if they had live DJ's. MY 107.3 has some Voice Tracking, so does Q100, and they're kicking ass. Besides that's great that the overnight person at WXBM is live, in this size market is really doesn't matter...only in the major markets is that a good thing, or maybe if we have a hurricane going on. So try again my friend. And from your earlier post, you said you talked to Valentino, what did she say?

I have not talked to Lu, but I would like to email her. My guess is maybe she got another job or something, but who knows in this business. Lu is a very nice lady and I think she has a lot of talent. I don't think she will have any trouble finding another job. I personally never got to work with her, but did talk to her and knew her.

If WMEZ is live from 6am throughout drive time it must be something they just started doing within the last couple of years. Back when I worked there the only time they were live was in the mornings or when they were running a contest. All other times (and on the weekends) they were voiceracked. But things have changed since then and I haven't worked there since Kevin left. They've moved to a new studio, added a traffic guy, and a new PD. Maybe things have changed, but a while back the only time they were live was in the mornings. I think WMEZ just needs some TLC and they're numbers will pick back up.

I think WXBM has some great talent over there. Marty and Linda have been keeping that station together and doing a great job of it. I just think it's great WXBM has someone live all the time (and on weekends) because regardless of market size, you just don't see that anymore. Unfortunately, the radio station I currently work for doesn't even have a live person from 7 to midnight. In my opinion, I think it would be good to have someone 24/7 because you have people in the evenings (and in the middle of night) who would like to hear a live, local, DJ. I used to be one who would sit up all night and call the radio stations at 3am (just ask Little John Walker who used to DJ overnights at WPFM in Panama City!)

If I find out anything, I'll let you know.
