Valley 401 Mic Proc.

Has anyone had any issues with this mic proc? What I am having is a grunge type of sound that just happened out of the blue on a production/VT mic that has been fine for years. It is only 5 years old so I don't think it is caps. At times, it is like a fast attack and reeeeaaaaalllll sloooooooooooooooooooow release, to the point where the audio cuts out. I have narrowed it down to the Valley with different mics (same type RE-20), cables, board modules and the like. The settings have not changed as it is behind a locked panel and I carry the key plus they are marked with white out. IMD and distortion check out thru my Potomics but could ony test at +4 cause we could not get enough gain @ -50 and we run the output @-50.
Help!
