Valley AM For Sale - Interesting Twist

I noted this recent dual-listing posted at MCH's website. My guess is it might be one of the multicultural stations adjusting their portfolio. 1570? 1600? Any guesses? It's. not KAFY as that was recently sold..

......
CENTRAL CALIFORNIA RATED MARKET AM: SELLER FINANCING AVAILABLE! This standalone AM has great market coverage with over 2 million people in the MSA. Serves two great primary markets with split coverage and at an asking price of $500,000 the Price Per Pop works out to less than $.25 PPP. Contact MCH Enterprises for an Executive Summary.

CALIFORNIA COAST AM: Rated market and station has a big footprint. Seller financing available at $200,000 or go all-cash for $150,000.

NOTE! The two above AMs are co-channel and are contiguous. Makes for an even bigger footprint on the same frequency. Leverage the two with Seller financing! Contact MCH Enterprises for details.

I don't think it's Bakersfield. Kern County's total population is under one million. Two million serving "two great primary markets" in Central California almost has to be Sacramento-Stockton. But I'm straining to name an AM with "great market coverage" that anyone here would dump for $500,000.

As for the California Coast AM, KPRL in Paso Robles has been on the block for a year or two, but "rated market" would be including it in San Luis Obispo (is it?) and "big footprint" is a stretch for an AM at 1230, though there is an FM translator.

Broker descriptions, like residential real estate listings, need to be taken with a grain of salt.

Could it be the 1570 in Lodi serving Sacramento and Stockton and the 1570 in Salinas?

1570 use to have a 250,000 watt border blaster on it who operated primary at night.

KTGE was licensed after that went down, KCVR was licensed earlier in 1948 but was Daytime only.

Wasn't the border blaster XERF Del Rio, Texas? It had Wolfman Jack before his XERB days. You could order 100 baby chicks from Wolfman. Cash, Check, or Money Order. I could hear it in Sacramento.

Good guess. From NF8M's pattern maps, the "big footprint" includes a lot of fish:

Plus they're the only stations on 1570 in the Western US. What's up with that?

Dave B.
Those maps are horribly exaggerated. WCVR barely covers half each of Sacramento and San Joaquin counties with a 5 mV/m signal. KTGE covers the lower third of Santa Cruz and the upper third of Monterey counties. Reduce the countours by at least a third, and then its for the 5 mV/m contour while the ITU believes 15 mV/m is needed to cover urban areas today.

I've always wondered what's kept KPRL going. There's a local morning show but otherwise it's syndicated talk of the right-wing type the rest of the day. Some local spots but I doubt they're getting much for them.

I don't think anyone much is going to listen to either the AM signal or the FM translator south of Atascadero - much less receive it on the other side of the Cuesta Grade.

Probably the highest and best use of KPRL is a rotating series of wine-tasting remotes.

More like a block of salt in the case of broker descriptions.
