VAN HALEN -- You Remember them ? ?

I am basically a Classic VH fan. I imagined that if I was to pick the VH songs that could be overburned onto a 90 minute CD, then this exclusive list, would be the songs that would make it onto that CD (for simplicity's sake, the songs are listed in album order, although I would fine tune that order later. . .) In other words, these are the VH songs that I would want to hear, Now! This is not a reminisence of what I would have put on a 90 minute cassette in the year 1984..... This is NOW !

------- MY 90 MINUTE PERSONAL CD of VH ---------

Eruption
Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love
I'm The One
Jamie's Cryin'
Atomic Punk
Feel Your Love Tonight
Little Dreamer
Bottoms Up!
Light Up The Sky
Spanish Fly
D.O.A.
Beautiful Girls
Everybody Wants Some!!
Romeo Delight
Take Your Whiskey Home
Mean Street
Sinner's Swing!
Hear About It Later
Hang 'Em High
Cathedral
Little Guitars (Intro)
Little Guitars
The Full Bug
Happy Trails
Top Jimmy
Girl Gone Bad
House Of Pain

It's like taking the Japanese Boxed set and squeezing what you want to hear most now, onto one disc ! !

Right Now... what would you select to put onto a 90 minute CD or cassette ?? It's a little painful when you think of what you cannot include!

Gotta tell you as a big classic rock fan, I must admit I was never a huge VH fan. Diver Down was a pretty darn good album and I would definately go with cuts from the album such as Little Guitars and the intro to Little Guitars.

Seriously though...as much as I like them musically, I never could stand David Lee Roth. The guy is so overblown as a singer! Sammy could rock circles around DLR. So I guess the rest of my VH set would be filled with stuff from the Sammy Hagar days with the band.

BTW, is it true there's going to be a reunion tour with DLR? If so, I sure hope he sounds a lot better than he did on his short-lived radio show! And for the love of God, I really hope he's burned all that Spandex!!!!

:)

Its starting to look more likely that there could be a DLR/VH reunion tour, but I wouldnt get my hopes up until after we see how the R&RHOF ceremonies go...still dont know if Michael Anthony and Eddie can stand to be in the same room with one another, let alone share a stage.

Van Halen "Best Of 1978-1984" CD to Be Released ? ?

It is rumored that to go along with their 2007 Tour, that their will be a "Best Of: 1978-1984" CD single released . . .

I am anticipating that the Corporate selections for the 1978-1984 "Best Of" CD single, at 78min, will simply follow the song selections previously made for "Best Of: Vol. 1" and "BOBW" (which were mainly "Greatest Hits" collections, and not their "Best Of", imo), plus, some other commerical / corporate rock from 1978-1984. (BTY, I really do like Everybody Wants Some, ATBL, Jamies' Cryin', Eruption, Panama, Beautiful Girls, and Happy Trails . . .)

--- My Anticipated Corporate "Greatest Hits" Selections
for the Van Halen "Best Of 1978-1984" Single CD---

Eruption
Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love
Runnin' With The Devil
Dance The Night Away
And The Cradle Will Rock . . .
Unchained
Jump
Panama
You Really Got Me
(Oh) Pretty Woman
Beautiful Girls
Jamie's Cryin'
I'll Wait
Dancing In The Street
Everybody Wants Some ! !
You're No Good
Secrets
So This Is Love ?
Ice Cream Man
On Fire
Women In Love . . .
Where Have All The Good Times Gone !
Happy Trails

I was able to see all three different VH lineups over the years...Sammy was my favorite.

BUT, for a short time DLR was the shit. Especially in '79 when they hit the road for their first big national schedule. I saw VH open for Black Sabbath's "Never Say Die" tour (it was Ozzy's last tour before he got the boot). VH was so explosive, by the time Sabbath came to the stage we were all drenched in sweat and had nothing left for Ozzy ("C'mon, let me hear you...").

Nowadays (sadly) DLR is nothing more than a cartoon of his former self. You couldn't pay me to see this show...ESPECIALLY minus Michael Anthony on bass.

David Lee Roth was the FLAMBOYANCE of Van Halen, but Sammy Hagar took the band in more of a progressive direction. The songs under the Hagar era had much more substance than hype. Hagar is much much more musically talented than Roth.
Gary Cherone(Extreme)was not a bad frontman, either.

I hold the oppostie opinion. ;D Whatever Sammy was trying to "say" in Van Halen.... I did not "get it"... And I really have no problem with that!! Sammy's work outside VH will always be better than his musings with VH...

The only time I like Sammy with Vh was when they did a cover of The Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again" ;D

Anybody want to place bets on how long this tour for Summer of 2007 lasts? I say 10 shows then the egos of Diamond Dave & Eddie clash & cause reminder of tour to be canceled.

RFLA - thanks for the links. I am a huge VH fan, I love the classic line up just as much as the Van Hagar line-up. I can't wait to see what happens at the HoF ceremony.

However, I am beginning to think that Eddie has more issues than Axl Rose ever did.

Well, that may be a stretch, but it looks more and more like Eddie and Alex have overvalued how much B.S. people are willing to put up with. In my mind, Sammy, Dave, and Michael Anthony are the "good guys" now and Eddie and Alex seem like the "bad guys". That may be oversimplifying, but I personally can't take any more of this "will they or won't they" b.s. anymore. Stop teasing us with reunions that aren't going to happen, and stop tarnishing your legacy over petty garbage. The HOF ceremony will make for riveting TV, but the circus that is being created is overshadowing a great body of work.

Eddie Van Halen needs to get his s*** together and put his ego aside and quit firing everybody. They were gonna tour with Wolfie, please! It's not the 70s and 80s anymore, He acts like they're still on top. He's a legend, I loved them growing up but come on, they've been talking about this big reunion for several years now, and keep canceling plans for the same reasons. Sooner or later no one's gonna care anymore. I know I have.

Yeah, I remember Van Halen.

They were big with Osama Bin laden for those who haven't heard. :D

I heard they might be touring this Fall.

That means all of the crappy Classic Rock stations can re-emphasize the few same old tired "hits" that they like to spew out to their ignorant, lowest common denominator, simple-mided, shallow, and souless constituency...

Rock I love....

"Classic Rock" as defined by the "Hits" format.... is for Losers. It's just rubbish, in it's approach to Rock! It has no value, except to sell beer advertisements.
It has no relevance, as compared to Rock, which is --not-- about commerical hits and record company singles.

Night and day.

Life and death.

Fire and ice.

Heaven and HELL.

Dave said at the Press Conference today that the re-formed VH, will be playing all of the "hits" on their upcoming tour. I don't know excatly what his definition fo the hits is..... So we'll wait and see what the setlist turns out to be.

I suspect though, if a Best Of: The Dave Years is released, that the bottom line economics of it all will have the band pimping out the hits, 'cause that's what will be playing on the corporate classic rock radio chains anyways......

Ahhhh the synergy of it all........ Even when it's $#*!..... instead of the Hard Rock emphasis that I prefer...... "Dance The Night Away"... :D

I wonder if Vegas is posting odds on the next VH implosion. Last time they worked together they recorded a few songs with Dave (Me Wise Magic - remember that one, anyone???), then that blew up. Eddie said Dave needed help singing songs, and would never be able to sing them live in concert.

At least Sammy is stable, remembers the words to the songs, and isn't full of himself. That being said, I will be buying tickets for the Philly show. That is show 3, and I hope they make it that far.
