Just received word that Van Lane of WELW passed away this past Sunday, Van was still with WELW until his passing...he was 89 years old.

He also worked for 1540 WSRS in his early days, and was heard over WDOK and WJW

Thanks Nate...I recalled my brother talking about Van. My brother also had a short stint as a sales rep at WWWE then he moved to Roanoke Va. , he worked in sales at WSLC until his passing in 1988.

I met Van Lane on my first day at WLYT on December 24th 1980 at 6:30AM. I will never forget that day. He always showed up at that hour to read the paper, drink coffee and remember the good old days of broadcasting, and then of course go to work. I also met his son Todd who was very curious about the rock radio biz and he would hang out at Cedar and Lee at 92.3 when not in school. You will be missed Van Lane. Thanks for the great stories (history). It was my first day working in radio. It was FM radio rock jock fun back then, even though I did the news! Good night Van. — Dave Sharp
