Vandenburgh Expands His Empire

Veteran WGDJ morning talk show host Paul Vandenburgh is getting his own daily talk show(4-5pm with rebroadcast 11pm to 12) starting this Monday on WNYA TV(My4Albany). He will be using regulars from his radio show and taking calls from viewers. Will offering a local TV host as an alternative to OZ and Ellen work? And when does this guy sleep?

Major kudos and respect!

The debut of Vandenburgh Infomercial TV show has been delayed a week to the 30th due to the investors lining up with the stars. The investors will be frequent guest on the TV Infomercial just like on the radio Infomercial. Sandy Family, Sal Ferlazzo, Jay Girvin and Trustco bank.

Fred Dicker and Mayor Corning have been mentioned as regulars on the TV show. Paul has invited news makers on his morning show. There will be investors and non investors on the new show I'm sure. If it's an interesting show people will watch. Period.

If Paul can get Erastus Corning I'm just quitting radio and going to the Alps.....pretty damn good trick though if he were to pull it off you might say.

Not bad, and will get better, he's kinda scrabbling when filling time or and in and out of breaks, will get better with time, good with a guess, has to get use to the delay with phone calls, the set is fair, but the PA noise at the train station really sounds bad, they need to isolate that out. If he can keep the guess coming it's not a bad alternative to what else is on.

I finally had a chance to catch some of the show. Paul had a good interview with the always interesting and informed Fred Dicker. Paul mentioned other guests he was to interview but the problem is he just mentions names. He needs, if he's going to present local notables, to detail why a viewer would want to hang around for a guest, This is not cable access, Pauley. You need to promo who's coming up on a show to make a viewer want to stay tuned and not switch to "Ellen". Local newscasts know how to do this. Perhaps it would help if Paul had an announcer/sidekick to promo what's coming up and pump up the show

The issue that trumps all this is the echo chamber effect which may not be fixable in the train station. The show sounds sounds like it's taking place in a cave. Why don't they move the show to the Talk 1300 studios? You get rid of the echo and be right smack in downtown Albany. You'd be in a much better location by the Times Union Center to pick up sports stars and celebrities who are in town. Who wants to hang around our isolated local train station unless you're taking a train?

Perhaps Amtrak or Rensselaer county are providing an incentive, financial or otherwise, for using the train station location?
