Vanness & Hansom get the boot in Ithaca

From another web site...

ITHACA — A rather unfortunate week for local radio personalities continues. Two staffers at Saga rocker I-100 (WIII) are the latest casualties of the recession that has forced radio operators near and far to trim staffing levels to save money.

[EDIT]

And they blew up I-100 and put it up on the bird. I'm hearing Dial Global. I-100, the single largest radio signal in the state is no longer live and local! :(

In what way is WIII "the single largest radio signal in the state"?

It's a standard-issue class B at a favorable transmitter location, which makes it a good signal, yes, but not substantially better than any of the several dozen other class Bs across the state. And it's certainly not a "larger" signal (going by geographic reach) than the handful of grandfathered superpower Bs in Buffalo (94.5, 99.5, 102.5), Syracuse (93.1, 94.5) or Utica (104.3) - or especially the class C signals up north (97.5 in Watertown, 99.9 in Plattsburgh).

They may have a huge signal, but from what I can see, not many listeners. They're the #4 station in Ithica with an 8 share. In a market with 90,000 people, that translates to 7200 listeners. I checked neighboring towns, and they get a .4 in Syracuse. Over in Elmira-Corning, they get a .9. Nothing in Binghamton. This is one of those formats that is becoming hard to sell to advertisers.

Wow....is it really Dial Global; is it their Adult Rock format? You'd think Saga would have put this on hard-drive and cloned one of their good out of market stations like WKLH in Milwaukee. Times are really tough.

This is a real head-scratcher because with Saga's expertise and depth of talent on the corporate level, you'd expect them to load up the hard drive and let 'er rip. Further proof that even smart radio comapnies sometimes make questionable decisons.

So if the market is embargoed, how do you know the numbers Mr. Mic?
