Variety Hits comes to Charleston, SC

Just about a week after the Upstate got it's Variety Hits station with "Charlie", and on the same day as the KIOL/Houston Flip, R&R is reporting that at 5 PM today WAVF/Wave96 will flip formats after 20 years as a rock-centered station and 15 as an Alternative station. The new Variety Hits station will be called "96.1 Chuck FM"

The question seems to be: what frequency will Chuck FM end up on when the big frequency shuffle takes place? Variety Hits is already on in both Columbia and Myrtle Beach, so they seem out of the question. And, besides, who would name a station after a city and then move the format out of town?

I understand why the shell game is being played, but it's a damn shame to lose a 100,000 watt station airing from 1,777' in the major metro that is being targeted. Ending up with three stations in Charleston instead of two (and picking up another one covering Columbia) is an understandable goal, but they will *never* be able to undo what's about to be done to the WAVF signal. But such is life.
