Variety Hits in Montreal (part-time)

100000watts.com reports that CKDG in Montreal has gone to playing variety hits as "105.1 Mike FM"... but only during drive time. The rest of the day (and presumably weekends) it's ethnic for the many people in the city who speak French. There are rules in place to prevent stations in certain parts of Canada from playing too much American CHR, but in this case with the language barrier (and the Quebec culture) in place, I didn't expect anything like this to happen.

The official website offers a simple logo with the call letters and a link to an audio stream, but the stream wouldn't work for me just now. Here's the CKDG homepage link.<P ID="signature">______________

The rest of the day is actually Greek. An 'ethnic' radio station in Canada is a language other than English, French, or Aboriginal.

Yes, it's true. Mike FM only broadcasts during the AM and PM drives, Monday to Friday only. When not masquerading as Mike FM, it plays music for Montreal's Greek community, under a format which I like to call Greek FM. IMO, Mike is more like a two-part radio show than an actual radio station. They're kind of like a reverse Jack, in the sense that their slogan is "We Play What You Want", as opposed to "We Play What We Want". I'm from Montreal, so I get to hear this stuff every day.
