Hondarribia (Fuentarribia in Basque) is a small fishing community with a beautiful ¨casco viejo¨ (old part of town) located just east of San Sebastian, Spain, right across from the French border. Here is a bandscan I did from their equivalent of a ¨boardwalk¨ (with a lot of curious glances!). Radio used was a DX-398. Tomorrow I might take the radio into the hills and do a scan up there.

Oddly enough, the San Sebastian stations, transmitted from a small mountain rising over the sea 14 km away, were mostly quite weak.
Lanjarón and Pitres:
Part 1: Pitres
Pitres is a somewhat remote village of about 500 people in the Alpujarra region, a motion sickness-inducing three hour bus ride out of Granada city. Many or most of the town´s streets are narrow enough to be inaccessible to cars, and trails link different parts of the La Taha municipality the village is located in, set in the Sierra Nevada range. These loggings were made on a chair on a trail about 300 feet in elevation above the village, according to my GPS. It was very cool to hear trans-Mediterranean stations from northern Morocco without being able to see the sea. I can imagine even better results from a higher point.
My location was about 5 miles from the Mediterranean, though I could not see it (probably blocked by mountains), though it seemed to appear a little bit farther down the road on the way back. Moroccan stations often came in strong, at least well enough for RDS decoding. However, I must say I was a little disappointed when I found out that SNRT was Moroccan and not Tunisian as I was hoping (that would be 700 miles - probably not impossible with slightly better equipment, maybe a higher perch, and good conditions).
