Vault 2 to WO

Howdy, We are likely moving from Vault2 to WO latter this year. Has anyone done this dance before? Have you noticed any user or back-end problems that I can head off at the pass, I have a few older set in their ways jocks and would like to make this a painless as possible for them.

Those are two systems that function quite differently. I don't think you will be able to avoid the growing pains. The Vault2 UI is so different from WO.

Any reason you're not just moving to AV Flex?

Currently we are on WO traffic so that's a big part of it, also AV flex did not make any great strides on remote voice tracking ability's.
In general we did not find enough positive improvements on flex to warrant the $$ when the change will require new hardware either way we go.

Although we run AV2 on our station, we found that upgrading to Flex was window dressing on really the same old platform. There isn't that much, under the surface, of a change. Nice graphical improvements, but .ini still reigns over BE's automation software. One thing I've noticed lately is that support has got a lot SLOWER calling back. I've also had them forget to call me back, close to the end of their normal business day lately too. Hopefully that's not a trend, but an exception. We shall see...

Brad,

No way around it, you will have trouble. Especially if you have some older, set in their ways jocks. I had a lot of trouble moving people from AV to Flex and they are fundamentally similar.

Wide Orbit is a great system of functionality, I just worry about how many hands have been in the code. It's still got elements from the original Scott stuff in it, with a ton of enhancements on top written by Google and WO (lots of Java, too).

You will probably want to start out making a standard layout and making everything similar to get them over, then allow some customization for the stations that can handle the new power.

Changing automation is never easy. I've done it three times and transitioned two other clusters. It's always met with some resistance, but I'm sure you'll work it out.

I think you will have to redo the trip tones on your library, though. I don't think WO will read the BE Sec Tone Marker. Hopefully, it will read the Trim and Tones. That will make your life a lot easier.

If the jocks are older, you might be in for a bit of trouble - station I worked at went from Vault2 to WO months ago and still has issues with jocks firing off the wrong elements and sloppy segs. The other issue was that everything there was manually fired off, with the exception of spots, and WO seems geared more towards fully automated stations rather than live assist.

Can you set up a demo machine to have them play around with it to get used to the interface? Also, if you can, get the non optical touch screens from ELO rather than the HP ones - hated them with a passion...

Great info, thanks ya'll.
We are planing a training environment for the jocks before the swap, great info on the sec tones ill keep a close eye on that. We are currently planing on the HP Screens per WO's recommendation but ill ask the rep about the others and look in to them.

Ditto on Nexgen... best support for any system. And a good system too.

"You pay BE a monthly fee for service. DEMAND BETTER!" Oh, trust me... I will if it becomes a pattern. Unfortunately one of my friends that used to work there does not anymore, so I've got a little bit less service because of that, but normally when he was off I could get decent service. It might have just been a couple days of busy calls for them....
