mix and kluc had great books for infinity...kwnr is doing well again..the oasis can thank sunny for their good fortune(sunny has moved back closer to where they were before they started skewing younger) kjul tried this about 10 years ago and landed in the crapper as well...although now that sunny is where they need to be, their fall book will have them back on target again and they will get their "in office" numbers back...kxnt had their best book ever, star needs to get the kedg call letters, now that they are available and just be a classic alternative station, and quit hurting sister station kklz and drop the rock product...they may as well go to 1 stopset an hour in the fall with a more music approach and they can put a serious hurt on mix the way 94.1 jamz did on kluc before they canned then pd jerry dean...maybe kklz should just be an urban gold station and give up..magic 96 anyone? why be sandwiched between 2 lotus stations and pay kim kelly big $$$ for crappy numbers..great move firing dan lea...idiots! eventually jack will need some sort of personality....not meaning diahrrea of the mouth, but i hear songs i dont know, and cant call to find out...yeah they have a website, but when im in the car, i wanna know NOW...not later when i have forgotten all about it...is kdwn going to hire former kjul pd david allen and go after the kjul audience?...im amazed they have a 3 share with a signal dogs and 2 humans can hear...the end of the dial is at the end of the ratings...they have the oasis for now...sell it while u can, cause area 108 has a crap signal and ratings to boot...so when does xtreme change formats? and to what format? i look forward to your thoughts....wheres jay f? thought he would have a post already...

MIX, KXNT, and KLUC all did well for CBS radio. On the other hand, JACK's decline is cause for concern and KXTE is doing very poorly. While AREA isn't much of a factor (no surprise considering their signal), they are hurting KXTE 18-34.

What a tight rhythmic race with KLUC and HOT in an exact tie 12+! The country race was close in the Winter, but certainly not this book with KWNR far ahead of COYOTE.

I agree with you that SUNNY will fully recover by the Fall book. I'm not sure if they shifted their music softer or if they simply "smoothed out the rough edges" but their music sounds good and focused now. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they are #1 in the Fall like they are every year. Has anybody else noticed that SUNNY tends to do best when the weather is cool? I have noticed that trend for several years. KSNE is usually #1 in the Fall and most of that success is carried over into the Winter book. Summer (when kids control their mom's radio) is when SUNNY does worst. That is good timing in the sense that Summer is considered to be the least important of the 4 books.

You brought up the idea of STAR totally flipping formats to urban oldies. Did you know that KOOL is already starting to cover some of that territory. They even have a "disco lunch hour". I wonder if they will continue moving towards Jammin' oldies? The good thing about it is that it seperates KOOL from the many classic rock/classic hits type stations we have in Las Vegas.

Speaking of classic rock, you mentioned KKLZs terrible book. It certainly was their worst book in their 20 year history. You brought up the firing of Dan Lea as a possible reason. My guess is that more than jock lineup changes, the main culpret was the addition of 90s rock from acts such as Nirvana and Red Hot Chili Peppers. I monitor the music of many stations and formats across the country and have noticed that even if it's the year 2006 most classic rock stations do NOT play 90s or even much 80s. That's just too wide of a range. I would guess the core classic rock audience (which is aging but still in the 25-54 demo) does not want to hear anything even remotley new. I have been monitoring KKLZ today and have noticed they have switched their music back to pure classic rock, they no longer sound like a KOMP wannabe. Does anybody know if there was a PD change at KKLZ?, I have heard some rumblings about that.

KKLZ had a fine Spring book last year. Corporate then brought in a consultant who installed his "safe" list and the rest is history. Kahuna and Dan Lea had a great handle on how to program the music, but they haven't had any input since last summer. Dan, of course is long gone. He didn't fit the "new" Beasley image. Has any company had a cluster do as poorly as these three Beasley stations?
