Over the past several years (Since early 2018), I’ve been venturing out beyond commercial mainstream radio (And mainstream music, in general) by discovering non-mainstream artists and their songs. I find such music to be very enjoyable and even better than many of today’s biggest radio hits. This passion inspired me to start a new internet-only radio station, “Verge 94.9,” which officially launched just yesterday afternoon.
Verge 94.9 is designed to play independent indie pop artists that many mainstream radio stations would never play. Genres include specifically dream pop, bedroom pop, and Electronic Pop. Verge 94.9 even plays international artists that sing in English. Core artists include, but are not limited to, Allie X, Vérité, Ella Vos, Dagny, Luna Shadows, Cyn, and many more. While many (Or perhaps all) of the names may likely be unfamiliar to you, I believe their music is worth a listen.
My station gives such artists a place to be heard, giving them a form of recognition, while providing the opportunity for listeners to find music they may have otherwise never come across! The station streams live 24/7, commercial-free. There are no DJs, no station IDs, and no interruptions, just non-stop non-mainstream indie-pop music, carefully selected by me.
The music you hear is my personal favorite song(s) by each artist; therefore, I don’t intentionally go for playing their fan-favorite singles.
