Verizon FiOS - a ripoff?

Do you remember those commercials from back in November where they said that if you made the switch by a certain date, you would qualify to get a free Sharp 19" LCD HDTV? Well, there are some folks in Methuen who made the switch back in November, and claimed to win that HDTV, and it is now March, and…they STILL have not received it! Apparently, other people have been through this as well. I bet Verizon has a lot of angry customers. I mean, what does this tell you about FiOS TV? I mean, would you want to switch to a company who would pull something like that?

What is the time line Verizon gave for you to receive the TV sets? If they promised an item (and make sure they don't put the first come-first served dislaimer) and you fit into the qualifications for it, by law they have to deliver it.

Just like a rebate. The law says a rebate , when the instructions are followed correctly, must be awarded in the time given.

If no time frame is given, legally they have two weeks.

they can also substitute for something of equal value like issue a credit to a new fios account.

when we first signed up for fios tv last winter they were giving away $100 gift cards to best buy to get new subs on board. most of verizon's promotions are handled by 3-rd party vendors which almost always causes havoc between vz's acct dept and the vendor suppliers. long story short, we never got the gift card but vz's billing dept happily credited the acct for $100.

if they offer you account credit for the 19-inch tv, take it. you can purchase a much hdtv rig out there than what they're giving away.

Yes, but see, I think these people signed up for FiOS JUST to get that free 19" LCD TV. And that's why they were so upset. I guess it just proves that you can't always trust those free deals like that. I actually remember a few years ago when we first signed up for DirecTV (have gotten rid of them since), there was a deal where you could get a free DVD player. We never got that DVD player, nor did we care about it. I just don't understand why anyone would want FiOS when we already have Comcast. And I know that FiOS doesn't carry all the "local" channels that Comcast does. I'm talking about the smaller ones like WWDP, WMFP, WYDN, and all those. And I don't think they carry any of the Providence stations either. It can't equate Comcast.

Perhaps it's service. My cable went from Prime, to TCI, to AT&T and all seemless with no probems. Comcast took over and it was a nightmare.

I remember Comcast thought someone was stealing cable so they simply unhooked all the apartments in my building. I was livid. I called and said "why did you unhook ME????" The line clearly has my flat number on it and all you need is a list saying these customers PAY a bill.

Anyway I had to take a day off of work for Comcast to merely unlock the box and plug my coax cable in again. I made the appointment for 10am, they showed up at 5:30pm. I went to Comcasts website and it says you're to get a cash amount applied to your account if they don't show up within an hour of the schedule.

I called Customer Service who refused, the supervisor refused, I went in personally to Comcast's office and wanted to know why they disconnected me, made me take a day off of work, didn't show up till 7 and half hours late then refused to give me the cash credit as said on their Website.

The manager said "Surely you can't expect for us to reward you if we're trying to deter crime." I gave them back their box and that was it for me. I will NEVER use Comcast. I don't need to pay $75.00 a month for TV shows that were on 20 years ago.

we get wwdp, wydn, mytv 50, wuni, etc and all 'local' channels which are part of their eastern mass line-up between 2-27. we live in metro west so don't get any ri channels but do get wmur from nh. they also have wgn from chicago in the local line-up which is kind of odd. channels 30-40 are for used public/educational/community access. fios shares the cost of peg channels with comcast/rcn.
