Verizon New Music Channel on Clear Channel HD stations

I was perusing through Clear Channel's list of HD stations (http://www.clearchannelmusic.com/hdradio/) and for the first time saw that in several markets there were Verizon New Music Channels. I didn't have time to listen to any, but I am guessing that the entire channel is sponsored by Verizon. Does anyone have any further information?

I've hear a Verizon commercial every now and then on WFLZ's HD2 (Club Phusion) in Tampa Bay. I thought they weren't allowed to run spots yet on the HD2.

One might guess the HD radio "stations between the stations"-"commercial free" period on additional HD radio streams has expired. Or perhaps WFLZ HD2 is not living up to the "commercial free" part of their agreement.

Another possibility is that WFLZ's management and Verizon had a brief bout with dyslexia and misread the contract as offering "free commercials".

The Commercail free idea was voluntary within the HD Alliance and only a promotional point. And as you suggested, it has long since passed. Still it had no bearing with regards to law, ever... I would suspect a full "Station Sposorship" would have supereceded any national "Inter-trade group" agreement, anyway. Also it is fairly common to present the "This commercial free segment is sponsored by..." line, even in non-Comm stations. This certainly would still follow the spirit of the non binding agreement.

As for the rest of your post, I wil refrain from comment. It is way too "Dude-esque" to justify elaboration.

So, it seems the only reason that the additional new HD-2, & 3 station streams were/are commercial free is that there was/is no interest from advertisers, and no measurable audience.

But the HD cartel made it seem as if they were doing the public a big favor!

Sometimes the truth has a way of getting revealed in spite of HD radio promoters best efforts.

Beware. Bonus spots are coming soon to an HD station near you!

Epic Insight, Sup'. I congratulate you on your deductive reasoning.

Your grasp of the obvious is unsurpassed. They promoted what they had. Here's a news flash. When you go to the grocery store and they offer an extra big box of cereal for the same price by featuring "4 Ounces free", they didn't do it because they are overstocked at the plant with Fruit Loops. They did it because they want you to buy the box of cereal. You must be first in line to get your "Thanks" from the customer appreciation sale. :)

Sometimes the truth has a way of getting revealed in spite of HD radio promoters best efforts.

Glad I was able to "Reveal" if to you. Maybe next we can explore the elusive world how radio stations actually collect money by playing commercials. And here all this time they've been saying they have the most music...

Beware. Bonus spots are coming soon to an HD station near you!

Astounding predictivie power. But remember the only reason anyone would want a bonus spot on a station is because there is at least some type of an audience. Since you predict Bonus spots "ARE" coming soon, you obviously feel there will be at least SOME "interest from advertisers" and "measurable audience" in the future. I agree.

I don't.

Perhaps you replace paid spots with free bonus spots and/or add more clutter to your peak listening times, but I doubt that anyone else would be so foolish.

I thought you were talking about possible commercial inventory on HD-2. How does "Replacing paid spots with bonus spots" fit into the discussion. I don't follow. There's basically no paid spots on there now, right?

I'm sure there's a point you're trying to make somewhere. Hopefully someone gets it.
