Vermont heard in Tennessee

looks like I'll turn off the XM and try for some FM dx on the way home from Music Row!

I live in Lexington, Kentucky and I have been getting all these Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, and even Canadian stations. I turned on my radio at 5:30 PM this afternoon (6/26/09) to see what was on 95.5 (WQHY-FM Prestonsburg) and I was getting WXXX-FM from South Burlington, Vermont. It is a Top-40 station called 95.5 Triple-X. So, I started to scan the FM dial and got several other extremely distant stations. Some of them were even taking over some of our local stations (ones that have a moderate signal in the metro area) that are normally clear as a bell here in Lexington (102.1 WKYL, and 95.3 WVRB, for example). Some stations I received are: CKYK-FM, CHOI-FM, WCLZ-FM, WTOS-FM. Everything is fading away now as of 6:22 PM

From where I am located (LaFollette, Tennessee)...I also got some Canadian radio stations plus some from Maine, Vermont, and one from New York. I have a couple to mention...I did check 94.5 at 6:00pm and the French announcer said "Design Autoplus". I found out that it was CJAB-FM 94.5 which is a French CHR station out of Chicoutmi, Quebec. I also got CHMP-FM 98.5 which is a french talk station out of Montreal, Quebec. Another station that I got is WYUL-FM 94.7 which serves the Montreal, Quebec area. That is a CHR station serving Montreal.

After everything faded away, I got some stations out of Nebraska, Missouri, Minnesota, Kansas, Texas, and Colorado. That was at the 7:00pm hour. I did check 98.5 and get this...it was legendary Denver country station KYGO. I did hear a KYGO jingle so it is an interesting catch. Also...I got KEOM 88.5 out of Mesquite, Texas. KEOM 88.5 was something I didn't identify until I listened to "We've Only Just Begun" by The Carpenters. I checked Yes.com for KEOM and there it was...the song was the KEOM playlist at yes.com. KEOM 88.5 has to be another interesting catch as I have not heard the station on my radio.

All in all...it was a big day for FM DXing.

I caught that station at 4:20 central time. Unfortunately that was just a few minutes before I had to go into work so I missed most of the opening. I did have an unid too but it was too hard to fish out the info as it would fade in and out. The station in VT according to my figures was about 900 miles from me. Thats a new distance record for me. Ive only taken dxing seriously for maybe 8-9 months though.
