Very Good KRTH "Lost Hits" Weekend

While there could have been more of 'em, K-Earth played quite a few lesser heard tunes this weekend, and a few of the fairly common but recently forbidden pre-Beatles tunes. Very enjoyable - the first good weekend they've had in many months. Please more! (How about a bigger Labor Day Countdown. Top 2001???)

Some I noticed either old or less common:

Bend Me Shape Me - American Breed
Something In The Air - Thunderclap Newman
When Will I Be Loved - Everly Bros
Calendar Girl - Neil Sedaka
Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes - Edison Lighthouse
Mama Can’t Buy You Love - Elton
Makin' It - David Naughton
Itchycoo Park - Small Faces
Take Good Care Of My Baby - Bobby Vee
Catch Us If You Can - DC5
Thank The Lord For The NightTime - Neil Diamond
I Dig Rock and Roll Music - Peter Paul and Mary
Twistin’ the Night Away - Sam Cooke
I Wonder What She’s Doin’ Tonight - Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart
When I Grow Up To Be A Man - Beach Boys
Help Me - Joni Mitchell
Poor Little Fool - Ricky Nelson
Darlin’ - Beach Boys
Bad To Me - Billy J Kramer
Sealed With A Kiss - Bryan Hyland
In the Year 2525 - Zager and Evans
Teddy Bear - Elvis
Why Do Fools Fall In Love - Frankie Lymon
Laugh Laugh - Beau Brummels
Kiss On My List - Hall and Oates
Wake Up Little Susie - Everly Brothers
Liar Liar - Castaways
Rock Around the Clock - Bill Haley
No Milk Today - Herman’s Hermits
I Got Rhythm - Happenings
Thank You For Being A Friend - Andrew Gold
Down In the Boondocks - Billy Joe Royal
When I Grow Up To Be A Man - Beach Boys
Palisades Park - Freddy Cannon
She’s Just My Style - Gary Lewis and the Playboys
Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen - Neil Sedaka
I Go To Pieces - Peter and Gordon

Wow, scooty, what a great list of a bunch of terrific songs! That's a real treat provided by K-Earth. I miss the days of fun, themed weekends (other than "That 70's Weekend" weekend after weekend, here...).

Hope it happens again, soon!

50s music just shouldn't be on the radio anymore, if anyone is particularly interested in 25-54. Given, it's on HD-2, and being that terrestrial radio's involvement in HD Radio is bound to merely be a temporary thrill ride (as unthrilling as it may actually be), it is an unnecessary cost, inconvenient, personality and content-free, bland "radio". I especially don't think such a thing does a station of the calibre of K-Earth 101 justice.

Scooty's list of songs here brought back great memories. I know I've heard them on the radio several times, only a few years ago. My, how so many stations have turned for the worse, they were played during better times. K-Earth, unlike so many other stations, has still got it! That is wonderful!

Try KRTH-HD2. All 50's and 60's oldies, all the time.

Ya, the HD2 channel sounds great. Nice old jingles, well chosen songs. Problem is it is automated, and has too few songs. Get some live jocks in there and play deeper cuts, and it would be great.

Actually the best oldies fix "on earth" is WLNG out of Long Island. But they aren't local and it's 32k online.

Hey, don't thank me. Thank Jhani Kaye or whoever is picking out these nuggets with/for him.

Great for KRTH. It shows that if something "new" is tried, the station hopefully will gain more listeners looking for something "new or Wow". That music list that scooty430 provided is great. KRTH used to play most of these before they cut the 60's. These hits aren't lost, only on K-Earth.

Those were the days for sure. I remember plenty of memorable and long themed weekends in the 1980's on KRTH. This station used to feature every #1 song in chrono order from 1955 thru about 1984 over Labor Day Weekend, every year. The weekend before, it was the #2's. The old KHJ and KRTH radio charts were used then. Also, the "super 60's weekend" and the "souveniers of the 70's weekend" were aired. They also aired an A to Z weekend over Memorial and the Firecracker 500 over July 4th. These were the typical holiday themes back then.

I don't remember the other themes used back then, except for the Saturday Night Request Show.

Certain key songs are still acceptable, like "Rock around the Clock" and "Great Balls of Fire"...etc..Many younger adults like these songs, especially with lots of today's kids liking "Grease" and other retro movies. Don't count out the 50's just yet....

Fat chance..ha ha, although that would be my wish too or something similiar.
Geez, their A to Z isn't even that big yet. funny

Ah KLL you YOUNG thing! Next time you are in a not-so-good mood log onto BoomerRadio.com and give Cruzin' Oldies a listen. Guaranteed it will perk you right up. The 50's were (generally) happy toe-tappin' music.

Maybe today's kids wouldn't be so angry if their music was better. (BIG grin)

Ohhh great.... I'm in trouble. I had a feeling YOU, of all people, were going to find this post! :) Let me guess: did OldiesFan rat me out?

I don't disagree with what you say about the 50s music. A lot of it is good-- a lot of it though, in today's world, is cheesy and wouldn't connect with people my age or near it. And that's a big problem. Regardless, as the calendars keep changing, the window has slid beyond 1950s. Mid-60s music are now on the way of becoming extinct! (and you know how much I love that music most)

Nope. There are a few posters who I will read no matter what the subject. You are in that category. ;)

I wasn't raising the old argument that radio should be playing Oldies as I've been schooled by The Old Gringo several times and my head is still sore from his cane. ;) However, the alternate music sources (Internet primarily) have a lot less overhead and can afford to be niche players. If terrestrial radio ignores certain genre's they will undoubtedly be picked up by another musiccaster (hey.....I think I just invented a new word!!!).

Now if only we could find a way to put our fav DJ's on the "air" again......

Great Point!

I've seen some research that somewhat goes along with your point. When calmer music is played, people are more calm.

I remember reading a story about beautiful music being piped into a high school via a PA system. Throughout the day everyone was civil, mellow, and (if I recall) no fights broke out.

I'm sure you all know that "rock and roll" used to spur riots back in the 50's!

Anyway, some of the 50s music is timeless, and like Beethoven or the Beatles, will be enjoyed probably long after we're all dead.

The only "riots" I remember was the crush of girls trying to get up front at the Elvis concert. ;)

Ah did not...have personal messaging...with that dude, Mr. Landtuna. ;)

That's one perk. Some things work better on internet radio than on terrestrial these days. I'm glad you're so into internet radio!

I happen to be proud to know from personal experience how a non-hobby internet station can reach a large amount of listeners, and earn a great deal of money-- if focused locally.

Wonder what you may think of KRTH HD2, though! Have you given it a shot?
