I know this may sound very unbelievable but... I just learned that Ed Beck has passed away. He was apparently found in his home.

I don't know much else yet. I will update the board if I find out more.

Ed was a great guy and a great radio person. Please remember him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Ive been having internet issues all night Glad someone Else posted this.

Hello everyone. Today was an unbelievably tragic day. Just writing this is killing me inside, but I wanted to post this before any misinformation makes its way on to this board. At this moment, we are unsure what caused his untimely death, whether or not it was a heart attack has not been verified. An autopsy is scheduled and I will post information about services as they become available. His family and I have been overwhelmed at the generosity and kindness of his radio friends and colleagues...everything from simple things like phone calls to full blown on-air tributes. For the past 5 years, he has been the center of my universe, the love of my life, my shoulder to cry on and my best friend. It was truly heartbreaking as this man gave everything he had both inside radio and outside it and asked for so little in return...to lose him at 33 is incomprehensible. Thank you all for your phone calls and emails of support...they truly mean more than you know. I know that Ed is probably looking down, smiling...and realizing just how many people cared that much about him...I know I did.

Jenn

Jen when I received your call about Ed today I was totally in shock. Ed has done so much for my station in VA the past 3 years with his great production talent. I first met Ed at WERA when I was CE in 1993. I knew he was gifted with talent then. I want you to know his voice will continue to live, on my show on WMTR saying your rockin through the night with Tony Dee and on my station as well. The folks at WKMB also will keep him alive with the sweepers and hourly ID's too that he made for them. If you need to talk as I told you today call me and please be strong, Ed would want you too.
Ed wherever you are I'll see you again one day. Your friend Tony

I communicated with Ed every once in awhile via e-mail for almost a decade before I met him for the first time in May at The Breeze. What a sweet guy. Ed was very generous with his time and patient with me learning the board at The Breeze. I just saw Ed last Saturday when I followed him on the air. It's always a shock when anyone passes suddenly, but Ed was a young guy, so full of life, that it's particularly tragic. Ed was an excellent jock, very smooth on the air. He will be missed. My prayers to Jenn & his family.

Very sad indeed. I'd been listening to Ed over the past year or so. His talent and professional manner on the air made me think he was older, that's how good he came across through my speakers. My condolences to his family, and his extended radio family.<P ID="signature">______________

Ed will be missed, I'm just 29 but 33 is way to young. God had a higher calling for Ed and I will say a prayer for him.

I found out about Eddie last night and I couldn't stop crying. Jenn I am so sorry for your loss. Eddie was one of the greatest friends Scott and I ever had. Eddie and I used to go to lunch everyday together, just to get away for an hour and laugh together. Over the past 7 years Eddie was apart of all the importatn events in our lives. He was there when our son was born, he was one of the first to hold Ian, he was right next to Scott at our wedding, he helped us move more times then I can count (as you knwo in radio moving is part ofthe job), due to all of our moves and his booming carerr, he never got the chance to meet Claudia and for that I am truely sorry. Ian knew his Uncle Eddie and we will have to share all the amazing memories with Claudia. Eddie gave me my first shot doing voiceovers and he was such an amazing teacher. I will truely forever miss Eddie! Whereever he is now, they are truely lucky to have him! Eddie I loved ya!

My prayers go out to Ed and his loved ones. Just last Wednesday I saw him and he was telling me how he wanted to get back into production and start remixing songs. I was to bring him a cd yesterday of acapellas and instrumentals. He was such an awesome guy. The good die young. We'll miss you Ed... Your memory will live forever through your wonderful voice overs and of course our memories of your kindness and generosity.

This was definitely a shocking headline from Allaccess today.

I didn't really know Ed at all but he was the voiceover guy for a station that I own in northern Mississippi. It seemed like he had an amazing talent no matter what the format and was on his way to becoming a huge success in the radio industry. I always felt incredibly lucky to catch him on the way up as we did so we could utilize his talent. He is perhaps the most responsible individual for making WQMA sound as professional as it does today.

In the very few online messages that I had exchanged with him, he was extremely and amazingly helpful. More than anyone else I've known in our industry. He was very generous with his time. He will definitely be missed and it's a sad day for us at WQMA.

We will continue to air his work on the Deltas Oldies Channel. You can listen online to us (and Ed) at http://www.q1520radio.com

I interned when he was one of the bigger guys at WCNJ. He was the only guy that i knew able to bring a voice to local radio and make it sound so damn professional. He made the WCNJ morning show sound amazing, he got the Keyport Music Festival going in '97, taught me a lot, helped me learn the ropes and was a pretty cool guy to talk to off the air. I met him thru Sal Derogatis' daughter and friends. He impressed me so much, perfect voice and an always happy personality. He did overnights at Magic 98.3, would put us all on hold, do his bit, come back to the phone, and being at 3 am, he kept us all wide awake. He had a great sense of humor. I talked to him about two years ago, and he wanted me to do some commercial for him for a supermarket in Philly. It wasn't really my thing, but I admired him for thinking of old friends/acquaintences to contact. He even made WDDM sound incredible for an ethnic station. He has had one hell of a legacy and always put his best foot and creative thinking forward. Every person that has come across Ed Beck's path, can at least remember something Ed has taught to us. I'll never forget the stuff I learned and how grateful I was to have worked with him. He was young, absolutely. However, he's led more of a life and fulfilled many accomplishments some of us will never get a chance to do. I assume God wanted a really good DJ.. Well he's got one of the best..

Ed, I'm missing you already.

I work at WDDM and man, he turned the station around. His talents, his personality, his presence in that building is really going to be missed.

Bless you and your loved ones Ed.

Jenn,

Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss. I've never met him, but it's always sad to lose someone in this industry. Especially one so young.
