They have moved WMLT 1330/96.9 from the AM/Translator combo to a 25k watt 328' stick..and is now broadcasting on 107.9 still carrying the urban format! Its branded as 107-9 Jamz.

In our lifetime new forms of music have developed... or become substantial. By it's very name, URBAN is presumed by many of us to be a music format peculiar to.... cities. (to have an urban community, you need a city. Right?) Regardless of race or ethnicity, people all around the world are clustering into CITIES.
I've breezed past Dublin, GA on the Interstate and I look out across the fields and say: Oh, this is rural. But rural South Georgia has a different combination of people making up the population than say mid-Nebraska or the Poconos of Pennsylvania or the ski country of Colorado.
I recognize that Urban music, on the radio in the city, is listened to by a number of people of all races, but it is assumed that the audience will always have a high percentage of Black listeners. Rural south Georgia (Along with some other Southern states) has a substantial percentage of Black residents who are prospects for becoming listeners to an Urban programmed station in Dublin.
Does the programming of Urban in a rural area present challenges or opportunity different than the programming of Urban in a more congested city?
That is pretty common with stations in Louisiana, Alabama and Georgia, with the highest concentration being in Mississippi. These states historically also have a huge African American population in, say a small town of 15,000 or less, so chances are that justifies being able to have an R&B outlet that can cover an average of under 15 such towns but the signal would barely reach a mid-size city of 150k or more.ShawtyBlack_ATL said:Urbans in rural areas fill the void that the nearest city doesn't provide. In Dublin, the biggest nearby city is Macon. 97.9 WIBB nor BLAZIN 92.3 serves Dublin. POWER 107.1 barely comes through in Laurens County. With an African American population of 51%, that 1 Urban station can make a killing. Other cities and stations that come to mind are Barnwell,SC/97.9 THE WIZ and Anniston,AL/98.3 The BEAT JAMZ

Tis true..they try to cover all aspects of urban radio by being a true urban radio station...Steve Harvey in the morning and hip hop the rest of the day with gospel on sundays.lovejamminoldies said:They were a hot-sounding Urban when I first listened on Friday.
