Very strong e-skip on 7/24

nd2023

Banned
I had 112 stations today, 8 in HD, and 2 translators. Shortest skip 530 miles, longest 1380 miles. From central NJ.

The e-skip started out strong at 9 in the morning to Florida, specifically south of I-4. Many strong enough to show call letters in HD, some strong and steady enough to completely decode in HD. Miami was in for the entire opening, other areas faded in and out. Faded out around 1 in the afternoon. The skip returned at 4:30 in the afternoon, weak at first, then all hell broke loose. Almost all of the local stations were not just unlistenable, they were GONE! Every frequency 3-5 stations deep, not including locals.

(HD) means the station decoded completely in HD on my HD radio. There were several others that showed call letters but no full HD decode.

Something else interesting, last night NJ 101.5 talked about someone calling from Arkansas saying that they were hearing it there, and others complaining about not being able to hear it in NJ.

Good long list there Nick, but I am surprised (especially when you got the xltr on 95.3) that you did not hear Cuba, the Bahamas, or one of our numerous pirates in south FL!

BTW WAMR 107.5's HD has been off for a few days....that allowed me to bag WWWT 107.7 Manassas VA yesterday. No problem for me if they keep it that way.

I do remember the display showed "HD - FM" with no calls on 107.5, and there were no subchannels. WAMR was in analog and I presumed that the same station would have been coming in HD.

WMSF 104.3's HD reads as HD-FM too. Is it possible that you caught 107.5 in a brief test moment? I am trying to think of other 107.5's in FL which might have it---can't think of any. Anyway, great catches all.

There were a few which showed up as "HD - FM", but I only remembered the ones in which the HD indicator was solid, indicating a lock.

I wonder if the stations I got in HD are transmitting at the -10 HD power. That would be 10,000 HD watts. 10,000 analog watts would certainly make it on e-skip. WFEZ was in HD almost the whole time, and its IBUZ was interfering with my local 93.3 WMMR (when WFLZ was not coming in). I wish we had the Easy 93.1 soft AC format (and also the Party 93.1 HD2 format) all the time, I discovered it last year during an e-skip opening and it's my favorite soft AC station.

Locally, Sarasota is the most effected by this WDUV/WBTT interference! Despite that, WDUV is STILL #1 EVEN THROUGH THAT INTERFERENCE! ARE THERE MORE OLD people than young adults (20-50) in Tampa Bay?
